Help! Bahamas question

Unread post by Volante »

I have a letter which I would like to send to The Bahamas.

I know it's an own country/state but I still thought it was "connected" to USA?

Okay, here's the problem... While I thought this way, I thought I could use US stamps for SASE. But now I need Bahamian (or however you say when something is belonging to Bahamas ;)) stamps or what? I am almost 100% sure that the man I buy stamps from doesn't have stamps from Bahamas

Or do US stamps work?

It's in times like these I hate that Sweden don't have IRCs :(

Hi Volante :D

I would assume that the Bahamas have their own postal service and thereby you will need to purchase separate stamps for the Bahamas. US stamps will probably not work, but IRC's will, as the Bahamas are a member of the Universal Postal Union.

Sweeden is a part of the Universal Postal Union, so you should be able to get IRC's ... somewhere. It'll most likely be sold in one of the main post offices in Sweeden.

Good luck!

Thank you nowandagain! =)

Well, I've asked our post office before and they said that IRCs are not used anymore. We had them before in Sweden, but somehow they disappeared :(

A new interesting goal: To find Bahamas stamps, could take a while :P

Hi guys {up}

Although the Bahamas is located off the east cost of Florida, it was until 1973 a dependent of the United Kingdom.

On July 10, 1973 the country declared it's independance although it still remains part of the Commonwealth, with Queen Elizabeth II remaining as their Head of State. ( http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bahamas )

The Bahamas do have their own postal service, but unfortunately I have not been able to locate a website for it.

Since it is such a small country it seems unlikely that you will be able to order stamps online anyway.

I would try ebay, or take a gamble and just send an SAE.

Good luck!

Thank you! =)

Yes I noticed that they have Queen Elizabeth II as head of state, too!

The good thing is, I found a solution! The man I buy my stamps from (mostly UK and US) had stamps from the Bahamas! :D I was very lucky, so I got 1.40$ which should be enough for one ounce, and yesterday I sent away my letter! :) A happy ending to it all hehe!
