Boo to managers, PR morons

Unread post by Magoo »

Recently went to a book signing for Gazza (English footballer for american collectors) and as with several other signings ive been to, jimmy greaves for one!, there was a spotty young PR nerd stood behind insisting that only copies of the book be signed and nothing else!

Frank Bruno on the other hand was a lovely bloke and would sign anything...got a lovely signed boxing glove

Dear Magoo,

it's understandable that celebrities do only sign book when they appear at book signing sessions.

A book signing session is held to promote the new book and of course to make people buy the new book, That's why most celebrites do not sign photos, cd's, etc at book signing sessions. Even if some people come up with book plates celebrities often refuse to sign those book plates since they want the people to actually buy the book.

Maybe you'll understand better now why Gazza would only sign his book.

Best,
Stephan

they have to do that if there is a lot of people there. book signings are usually only 1-2 hours long. no doubt there'd be some fool with a bag full of stuff if u could get anything signed

Hey Magoo,
I've been to easily over 200 signings in my lifetime and I don't think there has been one where that hasn't happened. It's PR. Good Cop, Bad Cop. If the celeb, star, athlete, whatever refuses it makes him/her look bad that's why they have the PR nerd. LOL. Let's face it, The Celeb. in all reality has the final say and not the nerdy PR bloke. LOL It's common practice. Most all pretend they want to but in reality they really don't.[/quote]
