Not Including a Photo with Your Fan Letter?

Unread post by mwbashful18 »

What has the experience been like in sending fan letters to the casts of Star Wars and Lord of the Rings without sending photos? Also, Robin Williams?

I have received signed photos from James Earl Jones and Jeremy Bulloch (Vader and Boba Fett respectively), plus the plain photo of George Lucas. Is it likely that Ian McKellen will send a signed photo of Gandalf since that's who I raved about in my letter?

I've made a point in saying that I'm new to writing fan letters and that I'm writing due to a mission - I am collecting autographs from the aforementioned casts and Robin Williams to give to a friend as a gift. I'm hoping that they all feel I am not a "pro" as it were and are more generous to provide autographed photos.

What do you think?

Hey 8)

I can only help you on the Robin Williams part of your question :P . 'He' always sends photos but the authenticy on the TTM successes has yet to be decided.

Thru-the-mail success:

I looked up recent successes of his and it seems everyone gets something back from him including this one poster who stated his nickname used to be Mearth from Mork and Mindy, and when he got the stuff back signed, RW had signed it "To Our Son Mearth," ...... I can't imagine his stuff is bogus. And there is that little checkmark thing shown. It could be that when he's in person he's like any signer who just scribbles something, but when he sits down to sign stuff from fan mail, he takes a little longer.

I just got back a signed postcard from Jeremy Bulloch (Boba Fett) and his signature is extremely neat and perfect, but I imagine if you caught him on the street it would be a tad scribbly, maybe?

Even though he was in rehab it doens't mean the mail wasn't being forwarded. It may have been a help to receive fan mail at that time. And something to do as well.

All successes from Robin are postmarked from San Antonio, Texas. Including myself. So I don't think thats the case as much as I want to believe it as he's one of my favourite actors {up}

I would think that he has a secretary rather like Alan Rickman who gives Robin Williams bunches of fan mail and then Robin Williams gives it back to the secretary who mails it out. I know anyone who gets something from Alan Rickman ends up getting it from his secretary. Even people who've said they mailed him a pic at a venue such as a theatre say they received the signed pic back from his secretary. It's possible Robin Williams does this - receives autograph requests from his secretary, fulfills the wishes, sends it back to the secretary in Texas who then mails it all out. I saw an "official signature" on another site and it looks similar to the ones another person got through the mail last month that was posted on here.

That's not what he is saying at all. He is saying that Mr. Rickman's secretary sends the autographs out, AFTER he gives them to her.

What happend at the venue was probably something like this:

Mr. Rickman signs the photo, then sends it to his secretary to mail it out.

Nobody ever said anything about his being secretarial
