The only soap in the UK which actually uses the insides of some of their set-built "houses" is Emmerdale. The village is a purpose built one, and about half of the houses are actually filmed inside of

Stephan is right though, in Coronation Street the houses are real brick built, but the interior scenes are shot in the Granada studios in Manchester. EastEnders exterior set is mainly only fronts of houses and they are built in the BBC lot (carpark  ) in Elstree.

BTW, the exterior background above is probably used as a "window view" rather than an actual set. That is it can be moved around so that it provides the "view" if you look out of any of the windows in the acutal set. They will probably have dozens of alternative window views.

They actually use them a lot on comedies and indoor set-based shows

Ian

PS I have attached a couple of aerial pictures of the Coronation Street set below. It is amazing how small it is though, and if you look at the houses surrounding the set you can see they are only "fronts"!!

I've been on that set before Ian :) It was really weird. I looked thru the letterboxes of the fake doors and all in side was cardboard boxes etc.
Plus, they use pretty much computer graphics, so called CGI, for scenes on the island.
I have a book ont he first season of 'Lost' and they show photos of what they have added in. When the turbo fan of the plane was sucking everything up and blew, that was clearly fake, surely no one knew that but ofcourse they use the island etc.

Are shots for the 'Hatch' filmed in studios then? :)

I think so :)

Yes the CGI things are pretty easy to discover... Black smoke, polar bear, airplane, the thing, engine on the beach, the four toed sculpure, the diary containers (from other hatch), etc, etc.

But they are mostly pretty well done in Lost! :D
