For US addresses you can just use the first 5 numbers, but if the four after the hyphen are shown, then it is probably best to use the whole thing!
I know there is some argument about what the last four digits actually mean, but as far as I am aware they pinpoint the address more accurately than using only the first five numbers which might cover a fairly wide area.
It is the latest zip code improvement by the USPS and is called a ZIP+4 code
It is supposed to speed up mail delivery
