The new kind of Spam Bots - A real problem!

Unread post by celebrityfan »

This user is spamming the site with links to porn sites, and the like. I can't remove any of his that I've found because I'm not a mod in some areas. Can we ban this user?

Enceterjoha - different user is also posting same spams.

I logged on earlier this morning and every forum had a new post, I usually go through all the new posts but 40% of them were spam by the same users (24 posts). I deleted about 5 but they were in the forums I moderate.

Registration needs to be tighter :|

There are still several topics in the feedback forum that have his spamming. It says that only an admin can delete posts, but I edited his posts so that they don't contain the inappropriate links. If someone could go through and delete them, that would be great. I moved a couple of his spam topics to the moderator forum and deleted them here. Admin or The Collector, I think that it may be necessary to ban his IP Address if his IP Address isn't being "shared" among other members.

Well we've had over 50 today {down}

At this rate, we will receive over 100 a week?

We can't keep doing this, it's getting ridiculous :cry:

Since we don't control the spammers (or amount of spam they post) {down}, all we can do at the moment is remain vigilant, delete and report spam threads/users as soon as they appear.

I guess there are some periods that are worser than others, so if we can all keep a look out for these threads and users (and take appropriate action), we should be OK.

I agree but we can't keep doing this? :|

We'd be deleting more spam than taking care of everything else on the forums {down}

Well, as much as we want the spam to stop - we don't control the spammers. So, we will just have to remain vigilant to prevent/remove any spam from being posted.

I think we're going through a bad patch of spam at the moment, but it should hopefully clear up sooner or later {up}

It doesn't take too long to get on top of everything. The forums will be fine, despite these unauthorised posts :?. We will be able to handle it!!
