Problem with Banning

Unread post by Joey »

Hi everyone :)

I noticed some spam posts in the In Person forum, which I help moderate. After I opened one of posts, I pressed the "ban" button, but it said the user had already been banned.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but I thought that when a user was banned, his/her posts were automatically deleted?

Thanks :D

Yes but it takes a few hours for the posts to disappear I think. If you see the red card under the username in the bot's post, you know that the user is banned and that the posts will be deleted :) But of course you can delete them manually

Hi Joey :D

The user can only be banned once ... but their posts aren't deleted automatically.

As Johan has said, it takes a few hours before all the posts are removed by Fanmail-Bot. You should try to remove/edit posts manually if you can before they're deleted automatically.

Let's hope the spamming stops soon :?

I don't understand why some spam posts are edited by a moderator saying that this post will be deleted shortly. Why don't they just delete the post?

Thanks Johan and nowandagain {up}

I didn't realize Fanmail-Bot removed the posts; I thought they disappeared as soon as the user was banned :)

Hi TheMailman :D

What you don't realise is that in the Feedback forum, Feedback moderators cannot delete threads or posts there, but can edit.

This is why the threads are only edited and not removed altogether.

You can split a topic in feedback, and move the spam message to another forum you moderate, and delete it there {up}

Hi James :D

I hadn't thought of that!! If it was just individual threads I'd move and delete, but because they were part of a perfectly normal feedback thread I just edited them and let Fanmail-Bot do the rest.

Thanks for the tip {up}
