Question Regarding Postage on SASE's

Unread post by siggyminx »

Hi guys :) I have a question regarding postage on SASE envelopes we as fans send to receive our autographs back from the actor/actress we request them from.

I use a 75 cent stamp on all my SASE’s for all US requested autographs and for international autographs request I stick in 2 IRC’s (International Reply Coupons) which are exchanged into postage for my autograph to get sent back.

I had the most nastiest postal employee fight with me because she wouldn’t sell me 75 cent postage stamps and she wanted to know the reason why I kept purchasing 75 cent postage stamps. I told her I collect autographs to which she angrily explained to me that a 63 cent stamp would be more than enough postage for my autographs to be mailed back to me. I told her politely that a 75 cent stamp is more sufficient postage for me because sometimes the actors include cardboard backings with their photos so it won’t get bent and sometimes include a letter with their autographs which is why I purchase and put a 75 cent stamp on all my 9 x 12 envelopes (which I fold into thirds and slide it into a size 10 business size envelope. Well when the postal employee started to measure the weight of all my envelopes (to make sure I wasn’t under postage, which I was not with my envelopes) I let her know very politely that I wasn’t interested in purchasing ANY stamps today and that I didn’t have enough money on me to avoid her very vicious scolding of me and lecturing of me for not buying 63 cent stamps instead of letting me purchase my usual 75 cent stamps. On top of everything else she wouldn’t give me back my enevelopes to mail and accused me of being sarcastic with here when I didn’t want to reply back to her or speak with her, I was never more scared of going to the post office in my life, she kept yelling at me & accosting me that buying 75 cent stamps is wasting money not saving money and the she was trying to saving me a few cents. She didn’t have to scream at me for giving her business and buying 10 or 20 75 cent stamps like I usually do.

So my question is how much postage do all of you usually put on your SASE for US requested autographs 63 cents or 75 cents. I know there is no exact science on postage for autograph requests but I feel the more postage I put on the SASE the better I feel knowing that the person who includes more then one autograph or letter is covered and don’t have to worry about stuffing more goodies into my SASE.

Does anyone understand what I am trying to say or understand my logic….LOL

wow, that was a lot to read. I put 63 cents on mine, and they rarely come back with cardboard in them. When they do, the price is still fine at 63 cents. I think you're wasting your money.

Wow what a crazy post office experience!

I usually put on 63 cents because even with cardboard that seems to be enough.

:) Andy it took me a few hours to reel form the way I was being screamed at and scolded by this woman to relaize I didn't deserved being yelled at for giving her business by buying stamps. Besides the fact I worked for the USPS 3 months ago for Christmas break and I was lucky I didn't encounter an employee like her thank the heavens....

I am so afraid of going to my own post office now for fear of being confronted by her I let the USPS customer service line know that too.

I always put two 39 cent stamps on my envelopes. I don't like going to the post office either, except they really seem to go overboard sometimes.

Anyways, I've never had a problem with two 39 cent stamps. I sent Bob Bergen 3 game covers and a photo, he sent me them all back signed with another one of his photos. Included was a file folder (which I also always do) to keep it all safe. I was pleased to see that my two stamps were enough for this rather full envelope.

Stick with 39 cent stamps! You'll find it easier to buy a booklet of 20 of them at the store for $7.80... which isn't too bad. Much less than going to the post office.

Good luck!
