Charity Auction for American Cancer Society/MCF

Hey everyone!

I have decided to use my autograph skills for a good cause and raise money for the American Cancer Society and the Maine Cancer Foundation. Now I used TheCollector's BRILLANT sample letter and treaked it for my own.

My biggest item is I am going (thanks to the idea from another member who is doing this) going to send a black book to be signed by as many celebrities as I can, requesting a few photos along with it to make sure if the book does ever get lost, I still have things from them for the auction.

I have email requests out to Judi Dench, Shirley Maclaine, Bob Barker, Jay Leno and Ernie Els.

I am sending the black book first to actor John Travolta, going to send it tomorrow! A few others are next in line.

Does anyone have any advice, anything I need to know etc to do this. I am excited to help a good cause.

My advice to you is, that if you really want to make a book with autographs, get in-person signings. This way, you are sure you won't get secretarials or autopens or the book getting lost. You know for sure you have an authentic autograph and you get it in a short amount of time. Of course, each person has his/her own way, but thats just a view.

Another thing I have been doing is looking in used bookstores for books in good condition such as biographies etc. You can usually buy them quite cheaply and afterwards I send out a bookplate along with a request and when I get it back I stick it in the book and sell that as well. Some I got from my bookstore are:

Nigger- Autobiography of Dick Gregory
Memoirs of John Glenn
Our Endangered Values by Jimmy Carter
Memoirs of John McCain
Jane Fonda's Autobigraphy

All were purchased for under 10 dollars and the autograph inside usually at least triples the value.

Honestly, I would go for people who really send authentic pictures. Top of my list: Dakota and Elle Fanning. Other than those two, I would say Kate Bosworth. Now, in person wise, if you ever get Sean Connery, that would be amazing.

Other good signers are Lauren Bacall, Harry Morgan, Steve Martin, Bob Newhart, Alan Alda, Henry Winkler, Leslie Nielsen, Bette Midler, Art Linkletter, Gloria Stuart, Tom Selleck, Barbara Eden, Martin Sheen.
