Do Not Bend?

Unread post by godschik »

okay, so I've been getting my autographs back bent so they'd fit in my mail box (they've all been marked do not bend and some of them have had rather thick cardboard in them). I've been to the post office 3 times to complain and last time I left special instructions that if it has to be bent at all the get in my box to just leave a note and I'd drive the 12 miles (one way) into town to pick it up myself. Today when I went back in the supervisor told me that postal regulations say that if an item isn't to be bent it has to be packaged to not bend (in a thick card board mailer), what's the point of putting 'do not bend' on something that wouldn't bend anyway? I've had packages that have bend packaged as she said that were bent to put in my box (and yes, they were marked do not bend).
Suggestions? Any similar problems?
I was told when I first started collecting and went to the post office to find out how to mail a bigger envelope that all I needed to do was put 'do not bend' on it and if I was worried about it getting bent in the mail sorting that I should include some light weight card board.

You shouldn't go to the post office, but directly to the mailman who brings mail to Your house. If he is ok, he'll make sure that Your letters will not get bent...

I've got a similar problem - my mail is always bent, because my mailman hates us. Not only us - he hates the whole world, he hates his job, everything... He's always rude, and he doesn't care about my polite asks not to bend my mail...

If Your mailman is not like mine, You can succeed and get 90 % of Your mail in good shape, not bent.

Good luck!

The weird thing is. Sometimes if it says DNB and it feels like nothing inside or a really thin paper. The mailman will bend it. but if it feels like there's something in it or it's thick mailman won't bend it. It just random for me. I guess sometimes are mailman gets bored or something and just slams it into the box so the mail just kinda sticks out.
Now that i write it like BIG LETTERS and BOLD the mailman tends to not bend it

I had a problem with it too, now all the TTM successes (A4 envelopes) are personally delivered by the mailman.

My envelopes that have "Do Not Bend" on them are either delivered in the mail truck, or the mailman will put them on the floor of my porch.

And, just as a side note, with the new postal rate changes, it will now cost you an additional 30 cents if you have "Do Not Bend" on your envelope.

The way to get around the charge is to write "Fragile" instead, which is still free. ;-)

I think that a lot of it has to do with the post carrier. Mine is really nice she won't bend anything, she'll try ti bring it up to the door if she has to. I did have the same problem when there a different person for a few days. But they're not suppose to bend if it says do not bend.

So my theory is correct - like I said earlier, it all depends on the mailman...

it costs another 30 cents to put "do not bend"?
my dad has a machine at work that weights the packages and tells you how much money stamps you have to put on...
should i tell him to add 30 cents to what my envelope is going to cost?
