do you ever Buy autographs?

Unread post by undertaker »

hey,

Just out of curiosity...Does anyone here ever Buy autographs from a dealer? if so why (not) and whose autograph.

I've only baught one autograph so far. I paid 50$ for a signed foto of Willie Nelson. I think it's one of the few guys whose auto I would pay for. I tried to get it through the mail, but gave up after 3 or 4 times.

Hi undertaker,

I would NEVER buy autographs from a dealer. For one, they charge WAY too much, and most of that money they keep for themselves. And two, occasionally if you send autos through snail mail/e-mail, they will come back personalised, and that is way more cool!!!

For example, look at the auction below on eBay:
http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/Colin-Firth-Mr-D- ... dZViewItem

It is a photograph that has been signed by Colin Firth. Someone has bidded on it at £14.99 ($26.71 at 08th August 2005's rate). Colin is more than happy to sign and PERSONALISE autographs for you if you send him a letter and SASE. What is the point of spending £14.99 on an autograph, if you can get one that you know is yours for less than that price???

I have to say I agree. I guess it's fun for me to see if the person I'm writing to will personalize it or even sometimes write a short note. That makes the autograph more special for me.

The only autograph I have ever bought is Liv Tyler's. I got it off ebay.
The reason I bought the autograph was because I wanted to give it to my sister and I hadn't got any replies through the mail.
I would agree with what AutographAddict said it is "way more cool" to get the autograph directly from the celebrity then from a dealer.

I never have because first of all, it ruins the fun. Most most importantly, you really don't know if you're getting a genuine autograph! There are so many fakes out there on ebay it's unbelievable.

That's true. And also, when you're having a bad day, and you see an envelope that you weren't expecting in the mail box, it can make you day a lot better. :)

Hey,

I agree that it's more fun to send out requests...and walk to the mailbox every day curious if there's anything in there. But sometimes you get no response...so if that happens and I come across a dealer who offers an autograph I want I might be interested.

as for the Willie Nelson autograph...That guy is my Elvis, I didn't mind paying a few $$ for that one. I'm pretty sure it's authentic, cause i know the dealer personally and he's the organisor of a big festival here in belgium so I know where he got it...and the guy is a friend so I trust him.

Never. I never buy any autographs anywhere, anytime. The only exception is when I buy an autographed baseball card. The card has to be certified by the card company or I won't buy it. As for signed photos on ebay or from a dealer, I wouldn't buy any. I don't care if it comes with a COA or not. You just can't trust the COA's. Let's say somebody is trying to sell a forged version of the late Peter Jennings' autograph. That person will instantly print off a COA from their computer. My advise is that if you want to buy an auto, make sure it is certified by a reputable person, agency, or company. I also agree that it does take the fun out of actually writing to the celeb. Because if you just buy one, then you know that the celeb never actually read anything that you sent them. It just doesn't feel the same looking at a "Store Bought" autograph and then looking at one you got through the mail or in person.
