Realisation

Unread post by James »

When have you realised that sometimes, in this hobby, it doesn't always to go plan.

Yesterday I went up to central London, with one thing in mind, to get Dan Castellaneta, who does the voice of Homer Simpsons,'s autograph. I went up with my Simpsons DVD sleeves and pictures and pens, looking forward to hopefully meeting him. Thsi was probably my most anticipated autograph 'event' of the year, something I was very much looking forward to. :D

On the way to where he was performing, I passed many theatres & studios, where I managed to get other autographs, but narrowly missed out (by about 3 seconds) on Patrick Stewart, which annoyed me.. but I thought oh well that's life. :mrgreen:

Got to where Dan was going to be performing, waited about 1/2 hour in the cold, only to see him be 'ushered' inside without signing. :neutral:

It made me wonder, when have you realised that sometimes, something you really look forward to doesn't always go to plan? This was definatley my first experience where I have set out for someones autograph, and not got it. (Ie: not where I've missed him, or he's not been there, but where he's not been allowed to sign) {down}

This isn't a post for 'sympathy' responses, but just hopefully an interestiong topic where you can share your stories where you've realised it doesn't always go to plan! :)

Thanks (& well done if you've read all of this!) :mrgreen:

When i was at a concert, there was a big line forming. I walked up to see what it was about, and one of my favorite bands, at the time, Hellogoodbye was signing posters and pictures. I ran back to the end and got in line. My friend was 2 ahead of me so I could have butted in line and stood with her, but being polite, I patiently waited. As I neared them, this older bodyguard type lookiing man came out and said only 2 more people. Of course my friend got in and not me, and I was pretty bummed and was like begging the guy just to let one more in, but nothing. Atleast I got to see them live though :?

reminds me of when we went to a concert last summer and seether was at an autograph booth. we waited in like for like an hr and a half for breaking benjamin and they never came out, seether finally comes out and sits there and a bunch of ppl cut in front of us. now seether is one of my girlfriends favorite bands. It was her, my sister, and I... So we finally get to the front, and their PR guy or whoever goes, ok you're the last one, to my sister, who was right in front of me, and my gf was behind us. After pleading with them a second and realizing no use, I yelled her name and tossed my cd book at her on the table they were signing at, and she got it signed for me, and my girlfriend missed out. To this day, I never hear the end of it, LOL!

I was at the Dolly parade in Pigeon Forge, TN. A collector/dealer in TN said that there were known stalkers around, so the cops and Dollywood security were going to get her into the vehicle as fast as possible. He said that she would sign a few autographs on her way to the van, but once in there she would be gone. I went and got a few pictures of Dolly (Parton) (the best are below), but couldn't get anywhere near her or the van. The cops were standing around it holding umbrellas so nobody could go around them.

My cousin used to dance at the Cowboys half-time show every Thanksgiving. One the day before we would go to the dress rehearsal and watch.

This particular year Jessica Simpson was performing. Sitting in the audience with us was Nick Lachey. This was when they were dating the first time (before their first breakup). A bunch of people went over and got autographs and took photos with him while Jessica was rehearsing. I thought that was rude so I waited a few minutes, but by the time I went over there, he wouldn't sign anymore autographs or take any more photos. Actually, he wouldn't even look my direction. His "people" that were sitting around him sent my little cousin and I away.

This was before he was huge. He was still with 98 Degrees (which I can't believe I'm admitting that they were actually my favorite band at the time).

About 10 years ago they were filming the movie “Palmetto” near my house in Sarasota, FL starring Woody Harrelson and Elisabeth Shue. This was before the “autograph bug” bit me. They were filming inside a bar, right next to a Burger King. As I was walking out of the Burger King- Woody walked outside to meet a few fans that had been patiently waiting to meet him outside the bar. I’ve never been star struck- but I figured- what the heck- I’ll get his autograph since he was just standing there smoking between filming his parts. I got his autograph. I was bit! A few minutes later- Ms. Shue walked out, she didn’t pay me any attention- just walked past me and got into a waiting car. So, my very first day of collecting I scored, and I got rejected.
