Is it worth it for PPs?
DO you think t s worth writing, nad including sases if you only get back a pp?
Re: Is it worth it for PPs?
NOPE! Preprints are evil!
Some people will disagree and say 'it's better than nothing', but anything's better than a preprint for me. Don't waste your money, it's really not worth it! They have no sentimental or monetary value. Rather just find a autographed photo of the celeb on the web, and print it out yourself. Same thing!! {thumb2}

Re: Is it worth it for PPs?
I agree with Shambler. If I know that someone sends preprints out, I won't waste my stamps or time on writing to them.

Re: Is it worth it for PPs?
xannax if you go to the sub-forum called 'collecting help' you'll find tons of helpful topics there for beginners! I'll give you some basic tips though : 1. Don't bother writing if you know the person only sends out preprints 2. auto-pen, secretarials and stamps aren't very nice either
3. Always write to a person you admire, keep your letter relatively short (1 page), request your autograph in either the first or last paragraph, and include a self addressed stamped envelope for the return of the auto. It helps alot in most cases when you send your own photo to be signed! Also, ask for your autograph to be personalized. It's not cheeky
, a lot of celebs are reluctant to jst put their name down without yours, in fear of the auto ending up on ebay or something....oh..and don't trust ebay ;) {thumb2}

Re: Is it worth it for PPs?

I only write to people who I admire and really love their work. But I don't write to celebrities who are known to ONLY send out pre-prints and autopens. I will consider writing to someone if they have sent out occasional authentics in the past, even if they're mostly known for pre-prints and autopens.
For example, I love Jennifer Aniston. I think she's a great actress and that she is really funny. But unless she ever starts signing TTM, I won't write to her. Stamps and envelopes are expensive, and I'm not going to waste one for a preprint, which, as Shambler said, has no sentimental value. I like to think that the celebrity I wrote to actually took the time to read my letter and sign something for me, and not that some assistant or fan mail coordinator just picked a pre-print out of a pile and threw it in my SASE.
I don't even keep my pre-prints in the same place as my authentics. My authentics go in a binder where everyone can see them. I leave the binder open to my latest TTM success. My preprints are currently sitting in a pile on my desk. No one ever sees them.

Re: Is it worth it for PPs?
Preprints are better then nothing. Once a person is dead or stops sendign them they increase in value. Look at a Johnny Unitas
Re: Is it worth it for PPs?
I guess if you're in it for the money Jason then yeah, go for it, but a preprint from a celeb whom I really admire and cherish means absolutely nothing to me! I support their career, they can at least show some appreciation and take the time to sign something by hand for me.

Re: Is it worth it for PPs?
I wouldn't do my normal page letter if i knew i was only going to get a PP. which is a shame because i would have done hugh laurie and rowan atkinson. but I would like Ed Harris' and as hes in SFM all you have to do is write your address in an email, so not much effort went in
and its still something and he sends a cool photo anyway
surely a PP is better than a secritarial. atleast with a PP it is the persons signature (we hope) just many generations down the line, with a secritarial its the persons autograph yeah, but signed by some pleb who you don't even know... i may as well have wrote it myself?

Re: Is it worth it for PPs?
I wouldn't spend money on PPs but if you can get them through email I don't see why not.... though I personally won't do it.
