Regarding British Stamps/Postage

Unread post by ne0ven0m »

I recently ordered 50 1st Class Stamps from the UK post office. I hope that will last me a long time to use for SASE for any celebs with agencies in the UK. However, I am unfamiliar with how much postage is "sufficient" for a typical 9x12 or 10x13 envelope from UK to the US. In fact, I'm not even sure what the 1st Class Stamps will get me. So anyone living in Britain, please give me some info. Thank you!

Hi ne0ven0m {up}

First Class stamps in the UK are worth 34 pence in postage. So to mail back to the USA from the UK with them you will need to use multiple stamps to make up the value as follows:

To mail FROM the UK TO the USA & Canada:
0.54p 10g in weight
0.78p 20g in weight
£1.17 40g in weight
£1.58 60g in weight
£2.00 80g in weight
£2.42 100g in weight
£2.83 120g in weight
£3.25 140g in weight
£4.50 200g in weight

If you weigh in ounces (oz), you need to multiply the weight by 28.35 to convert it to grammes.

On average I would say you need to allow around 60g for a 10x8 and normal envelope (A4) 9x12 - and more if you use card for backing etc. I would suggest weighing everything you expect to get back at your end, and basing your stamp usage on that.

Also, remember to use an AIRMAIL sticker, otherwise you risk the Royal Mail sending your stuff back to you SURFACE MAIL which can take 6-8 weeks to the USA!!

I hope this helps, and good luck!!!

Go to the link for more info. The math comes out to 2-3 First Class stamps.

I think it's cheaper if we buy British stamps. I bought some IRCs and it's $US1.85 each.
