"Reduce the number of new TMs" - Would you rather have a few good, quality, serious moderator candidates? Or just the current system now where you have any 13 year old Tom, Dick, and Harry that can become a Trainee and abuse their powers.

If you are adamant that the current system stay, then at least impose a few restrictions to the application process. Make the application age 16 or 17, and make some weed-out process. Like after 3 months as TM if they haven't demonstrated in the slightest that they can be a good moderator, then demote them. I don't think it's good for the site to allow the same TM (who never shows any promise) to be run through the cycle over and over.

My main issue here is the "Join today, be promoted to TM tomorrow" thing. That's not really good for the site in my opinion. That makes too many immature staff members for such a small site. Yeah, we have 9,000+ members, but how many of those are good, quality members? How many of those are just duplicate accounts (Which is another thing that I don't understand at all)? Other sites with far more members get by with less Staff Members. I don't see why we need over 100 for here.

And as for it being "Unfair to them" if we wipe the slate clean, I disagree. I think that it's perfectly fair. Tell them that if they want to re-apply then they can do so, but the new criteria may not let them back in.
I like that.
You do a good job explaining, lol (just thought you should know  )

Why should we only have only "good quality" members? Fanmail.biz is opened to everyone, even without a credit card ;-) This is a 100% free website and not a $10 per month membership website.

Sorry, i do not agree :? I see it everyday. The board needs more TM, more Trainee Moderators. Check out the forums. Ask Nowandagain and Josephine for example. They both reply to dozens of topics everyday for months.

You're saying that your open and accepting of bad members joining the site? When I say good quality members, I mean members who contribute, don't scam people, and don't have three or four accounts (Because in my opinion, that is useless and shouldn't allowed). Why it's allowed to scam members on here and to have duplicate accounts is beyond me. Please explain the reasoning behind allowing duplicate accounts.

So you want more moderators so the ones we have now will do less work? I would think you would want a few good moderators doing the job right than a bunch of bad TMs and moderators doing the job wrong.

Daniel does have a point.
It's better to have less moderators who actually do a good job looking after the forum than have more TMs who (for many and for most of the time) do not know what they are doing, and are only causing more trouble for moderators. I see it as cleaning up after them sometimes :D
TMs are supposed to be moderators-in-training who help out regular moderators, but a lot just cause extra hassle and trouble..

To make the board work, we always need new Moderators. To have new Moderators, we need new Trainee Moderators ;-) Trainee Moderators do not cause much trouble. 90% of the trouble is caused by 3 or 4 moderators.

I can see where you are coming from. Its always the same people that are complaining everyday. But I think we need more quality trainees. Most of these guys are just in it for the rank.
