Photos rights

Hey,

I wanted to print a photo and send it to the celebrity but I think there are rights and stuff like that, I mean for ex: I want to print a photo from the last Teen Choice Awards and send it, can I do that and get it back signed?

You can send anything you found and print on the internet, unless it have a copyright.

I don't think even if it is copyrighted that anyone will care at all. I do it a lot, just print off internet.

Every picture you find on the internet is copyrighted. So technically it's not legal to print them. But most people don't have a problem with signing copyrighted photos, so it should be fine. Good luck!

As long as you dont try and sell the photo you should be fine.

I aggree with Emma- dont sell the photo. As longs as there is not a copyright logo on the picture, then I am pretty sure that the celebrity will sign the photo for you.

If it does have a logo, then they will probably not sign it for you.

I think generally the word of the law says that you shouldn't print out copyrighted photos, but in reality you are usually OK if it is for your own use, and not for resale.

One thing that might be worth noting though is that some celebs are bound by contract to sign only "official" pictures supplied by the studio / film company. In that case they will probably not sign for you.

A few examples of this are the stars of "current" movies such as Star Wars, Lord of the Rings, Harry Potter etc. If you are lucky enough to get a photo back from one of these, then they usually have a copyright sticker on the back showing it is an official print.

What I would suggest when you send your own photo for signing is to say in your letter that you would be grateful if they would sign your picture, or supply their own in they prefer.

I have now received getting on for 300 autographed photos / merchandise, and I have only actually sent out less than 10 photos myself - all the others were supplied. Also out of that 300 I have only got 7 or 8 preprints/autopens.
