Is this true?

Unread post by OLV »

I read on a member of this webites website that when you write to somone you shouldn't say you collect autographs because celebrities don't want their autographs to be another one in a collection they want to be someones pride and joy ! Is this true

I have never written that but yes I would assume they would not like it if you told them that. You should be writing to them because you like them not just because you want their autograph. I would avoid saying that in a letter

I haven't written that wither but I wouldn't because I basically talk about their work and how I am a fan (which I am!) but not too much about an autograph because I don't wanna seem greedy, yanno? I would side with the celebs on this one because I would feel the same way~

WEll I just think some celebs will think you're not collecting it because you really like them but because you just want to make your collecting bigger

It can come across as impolite Jason. It would make it seem as if you want their autograph just for the sake of it or in order to sell it, and not because you're a genuine fan of their work.

Yeah I NEVER mention that I collect. The only time I ever said something about another persons autograph, was when I wrote to Piper Perabo for the third time I explained that the first autograph I got from her was basically stolen by my friend and the second one I sent off to Matthew Goode to get signed as well a long time ago and never heard back from him. She was a sweetie and signed for me and along the bottom of my picture she wrote "I'll talk to Goode about this" lol that made me laugh. But yeah, it's the only time I've ever mentioned anything of the sort.

Well I don't see any thing 'impolite' about this hobbey, I mean, we are autographs collectors arent we?

Calm down, no offense was meant by what I said! we are autograph collectors yes, but I feel that it's best not to mention that in a letter. The person reading it can become suspicious of one's motives and refuse an autograph. There's this negative generalisation that a 'collector', as opposed to a fan, just wants an autograph so they can eventually sell it and make money out of the celeb's generosity - but this is not true of a lot of us.I feel that stating you're a fan strengthens your letter far more than saying you collect.
