I'm in NY, I didn't go thru all the nonsense back then since friends had cars so although I had my permit at sixteen I didn't get me license to 18. Had no need for it. My son at 16 took drivers Education in school, received his license with a 9PM. restriction but once he turned 17 he has full driving privileges.(only because he took drivers education)If you didn't you have to wait till 18.

Yeah, our Level 3 license has the only restriction not being able to drive from midnight till 5am. But what most of my friends are doing is waiting till they can apply for their road test and just take that skipping Segment 1 and Segment 2. Probably since the road test is only $55 and Segment 1 alone is $269. I don't even know what the price of Segment 2 yet, and I'm not sure if I want to know seeing how expensive the first class is

In Canada, you can take the written portion once you've turned 16. If you pass that you obtain your G1, which allows you to drive alongside someone who's had their full license for 5+ years. After either 7 months (and taking a driving course) or a full year you can try for your G2 and take the G1-exit city driving road test. G2 allows you to drive on your own, which include city and highway driving. After another year, you go for your last and final road test which is the G2-exit highway test. If you pass that test you obtain your full G and then you're done with the whole system. So, I'd say, you could probably have your full license by the time you hit 18.

Thats in your province. In my province its a bit different. You can go for drivers education when you are 15 and after you take the eye exam and have all your in car hours then you can get your learners where you can drive with someone who has had their license for more than 2 years. After you have had your learners for 9 months usually when you are 16 you can go for your license and if you pass your driving test then you can drive anytime with family members and up to one friend and after 6 months you have no restrictions but if you have any accidents you are back to restrictions. If this makes sense.

Here in Finland it's 18. You can have your driver's license here in two months. You have to pass the written test and the actual driving test to get the (temporary) license. Then in a year you have to take the driving test again, and when you pass it you get the permanent driver's license.

man the us/canada systems seem overly complicated

at least its simple here, if not completely enfuriating. apply for provisional license at 17, take and pass the theory test then you've got three years to pass the practical test. which is a load of rubbish. (still has pain about being failed with one minor...)

In Iowa, you can get a driving permit at age 14. An intermediate license comes at age 16 with a full license at age 17. In my opinion, 14 is way too young to drive. Iowa even lets kids with only a permit drive to school if they have taken driver's ed. It's no joy trying to safely drive on the snow with 14 year old kids in cars going at least 60 behind you when you should be going 35.

Wow 14!! Thats crazy lol. Seems like most countries have got around 17 and 18 for driving. Im going to hopefully get my learners licence late this year or early next year!! Cant wait!
