Good God...
I've been collecting since 1994, have almost 13,000 autographs and have mentioned I collect autographs in every letter I've written. You don't have to cover up the honest truth to bump your success rate!
If you mentioned you were a dealer, I'd say that'd create a problem.
Well I normally mention it in my letters until I saw this on a website. Do you think it matters if I carry on mentioning it in my letters or should I just not mention it
Some of you said the word "collector" as it would be a rude name. But collector in general isn´t a seller. I mean, we all collect autograph, don´t we? So we are collectors. Who sell them then is seller. So I think it´s not wrong to mention in your letter, that you´re collector, if you tell in it how you admire the person and that you´re a real fan and you don´t write just because of getting autograph. To be a collector is nothing to be ashamed of.

No-one said being a collector is something to be ashamed of - I just said that I prefer to say that I'm a fan in my letter (because that's what I am first and foremost), if you read my post properly. It creates a better impression. Not everyone out there has the same perception of a 'collector' - a lot of us know we don't sell, but there's people who think collector means buyer/seller. But hey, whatever, write what you feel suits you, not what another individual tells you to.
Personally I don't mention it. I don't really talk about myself in my letters though, I try to just talk about the celebrity and why I like them. If other people want to mention it in their letters and it works for them then who am I to judge? Each to their own method I say {thumb2}
I've never mentioned that I collect. Besides, I only write to people I actually admire, so my letter focuses on works of theirs that I've enjoyed. Plus I always ask them to personalize to my name so they know I won't sell it (not too many people with my name {thumb2} )
There's nothing like seeing your own handwriting on a letter addressed to yourself in your mailbox
I would not ever write that but whenever if they ever see that you write you collect autographs, they're probably gonna think you're not a fan..you just collect autographs of whoever. Just tell them in your letter that you are a huge fan of their work.
