Why'd you decide to start collecting?

Mine started when i got a signed photo of Greedo (star wars) because i know him and his son. I then wanted to get other star wars autos and then that led to getting other film and TV autographs.

My husband started our collection in the 70's when my father-in-law was a stand-in/stuntman on The Sweeney, a floor manager at Top of the Pops and various other jobs. He used to take my husband and his brother along to work, and they used to pester the stars for autographs!

Some of our pics were dedicated to my father-in-law thanking him for his work, such as a Morecambe and Wise one, and a Richard O'Brien (Rocky Horror Show) one. The kids were more interested in Marc Bolan, Rod Stewart and Elton John.

We have continued our collecting by writing off for some, and when my husband worked in Film Set Security he got loads then.

Well back in January I sent to Ashlee(not sure what address), and I never heard back, so I gave up on that one. A little more than two weeks ago I sent to her again at the United Talent Agency address, so I'm still waiting to hear back from her.

It sounds like my story is the only one that doesn't fit with everyone else's. When I was 13 my mother and I would sit down and think of a theme (astronauts, authors, African American women, inventors, you name it...) and we she would teach me about them. Then she would find the address and I would write to them. It was a great lesson in patience, handwriting skills, letter writing...Definitely a fun educational experience I plan to continue with my own children one day...

well mine also isnt that big of a story but my dad bought a few hockey autographs ,and had a few autographs of his own from whatever and then he put them in my room, and then we got some ips(it was my first personalized autograph). and then i just fell in love with autographs i thought they were really cool. ive been collecting by myself for about a year and a half but with my old mans assistance for about 6 years.

I started collecting at the end of 2007..
Just happened to see a girl hving so many MAN UTD player's auto in some forum in HK.
I started to ask her many things & started to send to other team..
When searching for the address & info about autograph..then I found this site..

I started in 2005. I was working for an online music magazine and artists would send in signed items as gifts to us at the magazine. So since then, everytime I made contact with an artist I would asked for a signed CD. but I have recieved all types of things from Posters, T-Shirts and even a signed Lunchbox! lol

I used to go IPing with my Nanna in the late 80's. We used to go on coach holidays to Blackpool and ALWAYS saw a show at the Winter Gardens. Nanna used to love getting our programs signed after the show so I had a little collection of autographs. She died in 1994 and I didn't think about autographs again until 1999 when Jack & Vera Duckworth from Corrie opened my local carnival. I got their autographs and started collecting IP at shows again. I didn't start collecting ttm until I got the net in 2004 and started looking up addresses. I love my collection now but unfortunately all the autographs I got with my nanna have been lost

Two reasons really. I love the old, old movies. My favorite actress being Lauren Bacall. Once I got hers, I sort of took it from there and suddenly just started looking up other people, and then began frantically writing. I say frantically because I am bi-polar and I sometimes get very obsessed with one thing and only focus my full attention to that regardless of anything else in my life. I'm sure within the next couple weeks I will have moved on to a new hobby, lol.
