It's actually certificate of authenticity. They're pieces of paper that verify an autograph is real. A lot of times people on ebay use them. BUT there really is no meaning to them, basically anyone can just make a "COA" from their computer, even if the autograph is fake.

Yeah a Certificate of Autheniticity is just something which claims that the autograph is real.

As has been said though, it doesn't really prove anything, because people can just make them themselves. The best thing to do to find out if an autograph is real is to compare it to an in person signature.

COA

Unread post by TheCollector »

Hi guys {up}

Occasionally a celeb will send you a COA (especially if like me you are collecting for charity auction).

Otherwise quite often a celeb (or their agent) will send you a letter with the autograph. This is more often better than a COA especially if it is printed on headed paper - which is far more difficult to fake.

On the upside though, - COA or not - it doesn't really matter unless you want to sell it, and unfortunately those people who just collect autographs to sell for their own benefit make it increasingly difficult for genuine personal collectors to get genuine autographs.
