Boycott Beijing Olympics?

Unread post by jasonw »

Hi,
there are ongoing debates about boycott beijing olympics. I am personally against it as any real sportsmen would believe the importance in preserving the spirit of Athenian tradition of sportsmanship and keep the Olympic Games. Also, what would boycotting the Beijing olympics do to the so called 'human rights issue' in China?

I don't think they should boycott them - if they want to go, fair enough, if they don't, then just the people shouldn't make a big song and dance about it!
I still think that the UK shouldn't hold the 2012 because we never get anything done on time! (including homework!!)

Well, I'm Chinese, first of all, and I feel really terrible about the human rights situation ongoing but the Olympics and the human rights thing are 2 different things. I think they'll make billions of viewers around the world really mad because it's one once every 4 years and some people wait for it. China, alone, has it's own issues to deal with but if the Olympics were boycotted, it would affect us all around the world.

Not only do I think we should boycott the Olympics but I think we should drop the biggest nuclear bomb we have smack dab in the middle of Beijing. For the I.O.C to elect China to host the Olympics just shows it's run by idiots. There are already athletes pulling out over health concerns do to pollution. You asked to express my view.

Yes they should boycott the games. However, they should also sack the idiots who elected to have the games in China in the first place.

For someone like Jason who is Chinese, your comment about dropping a bomb there is surely offensive, and to me its just pathetic. Thats pure American arrogance - how to solve a situation? Drop a bomb and kill innocent people, just like in Iraq . Yeah, lot of good that'll do. Just remember, every country has its faults and the USA is not excluded from that.

I think the people who selected the UK for 2012 should be sacked aswell. As if it's going to be on time. Hardly anything is in this country  .
Like I said earlier, people should get to choose where to go, and if they don't, then they should let everyone else who's going to enjoy it.
Also, that bombing Beijing thing is a tad pathetic if you ask me.

Hi,
First thanks for everyones opinions. I am not offensived nor suprised by some of the thoughts here like 'dropping bombs' as thats what American's seem to like doing, after having been brainwashed by their 'free' goverments and media. They have been brainwashed for centuries and beleive they are the 'superior raicst'.

But what I am more shocked is the fact that we believe it is fine to mix politics with sports, when some of us are sports fans! Just like the American olympic president said in 1936 before the Berlin olympics (which despite the slaughtering of Jews in Nazi Germany, America did not boycott) "Politics has no place in sports" We have no rights to boycott the greatest, or the only sports event for many sports stars, we do not have the right to boycott the olympic spirit. Perhaps those who are supporting the boycotting of olympics - like sarkozy has something better to do ? (E.g. get a new wife like he loves to all swear at another old men like he did?).

Even more ridicolous is the fact of polluction; do you know why theres so much pollution in China? It is because they are the world's factory for almost everything. Can they add filters to filter out the waste and polluction - yes but that requires greedy buisnessmens to pay more and give up a fraction of their profits to save the world.

As for the following:
Human Rights Violations
Forced Abortions
Sexual Slavery
Infantcide
Genocide

Wheres the proof? In fact a week ago the Western media has been discovered for twisting the facts - they took a photo of an 'innocent' men being 'caputured by the police' in Tibet but later on it was discovered that the ben has been tourtured by the monks so seriously that he lost his front teeth, and the police was brining him to the hospitial. China's opening up to foreign reporters, but the reporters have to start being mature!

Are the Americans to talk about 'Genocide' and rasictsm; emm what happened with the African American, and the ongoing rasictsm in America? And the last time they tried to do something 'peaceful' - the 'war on terror'? What a big joke.

No arguments here we are just sharing our political views. And sorry for my spelling!

But, even if there's problems with human rights in China, how would boycotting the olympics solve the situation? Can someone explain to me?
