ADMIN PLEASE READ

Unread post by RuleroftheWorld »

This is getting stupid now. Can you PLEASE change the registration method so that you MUST use a valid email address AND have to verify/activate it?

The current method allows you to register using fsref@sgfregf.com (in other words, you can put whatever you want as an email address) and have a new account within 20 seconds, and its allowing spam-man to generate new names as and when needed.

Just got this in a PM

Thats insane, the guy msut've gone through over 200 names by now, if not more. Could've avoided a lot of this with a stronger sign up system, hopefully admin will change it...

I just tried it, I Registered an account with the membername abcd using a@yahoo.com as an email address, and since spamman is an actual person, the visual confirmation is pointless,

is there no way it can be set up so you have to comfirm your email address? and make it so you can only have one account per email address? I know of other sites that have it set up like that

What is "visual confirmation"? That "type in this code" thing? Thats no use, thats been there for ages anyway!

You need to change it to activate the account using the method I stated above, I know it can be done as Im a member of other forums run on the same software.

I know for a fact you can do that on this board system. It is a phpbb forum system, and am pretty sure it will work here. Admin, just change the settings of the entire board. Make it such that an email address is required during registration and that a confirmation VIA the email address is needed to activate the account. I believe there is an addon for the "one account per email" system as well. You might already have it

This is directly from the phpBB support team info page:

"Enable account activation - When set to None, a user may log in as soon as he/she registers. When set to User, a user must validate his email address before logging in. The user will be sent an email with an activation link. When the user clicks this link, their account is activated and he/she may log in. When set to Admin, a user's account must be activated by an administrator. For more information, see 3.5.3 User Management."

Visual confirmation is useless. Its just there to make registering a tad bit harder. But since spam-man has got use to clicking and registering, adding 2 or 3 numbers won't kill him. Account Activation is the best way to go on this.
