Real or pre-print?

Dubsbball14 wrote:Hey it's me again. Got another question. Whenever I get autographs I usually can tell if they're real or PP's. I am having a struggle figuring out if my Bob Barker one is authentic. Im almost sure but do you know any simple ways to find out? Thanks.
Hi Dubsbball14, {up}

Thanks for your posting! It is pretty difficult sometimes to tell the difference.

The best way I have found is to find yourself a good lamp and (providing the photo is glossy as most are) tilt the picture away from you under the lamp and the autograph should look matt/dull against the glossy print surface. This works a treat with autos signed in marker/sharpie.

For autos signed in biro or roller pen, - check out the reverse of the print to see if you can detect any imprint of the pen on the back. Silver/gold marker or gel pen autographs are similar to marker autos above. Tilt the pic away from you and you should see the difference in surface texture.

With metallic/gel pens you might also be able to (carefully) feel the raised ink on the print with the back of your nail - don't scratch it off!

Finally, if you still can't tell from this, then try to find somebody else with an auto from the same person. (use the fanmail.biz toolbar - download it at http://www.fanmail.biz/toolbar/toolbar.php ) and do a search on fanmail.biz for your celeb.

I did this for you for Bob Barker (check out here for the results - http://www.fanmail.biz/feedback/Bob_Barker.html ) and it appears that all the Bob Barker autos there are pre-prints. They all have identical signatures in the exact identical position.

Compare these with yours though to be sure!

Hope this is helpful!
