SASE, SAE, SSAE????

Unread post by Brittany18 »

Ok, so I really really want to write a certain celebrity and hopefully get a signed picture or just an autograph back. I haven't had any luck sending mail before I found this site, and I haven't attempted sending anything yet, until I'm quite sure what an SASE, SAE, and SSAE refer to. I've looked all over the site for help, and it basically says the following:

An SAE is a SELF-ADDRESSED ENVELOPE, and and is really the least you should send if you expect to receive a reply from a celeb. It is basically an envelope with your own address on the front, which the celeb or their agent will use to mail back an autograph to you. To be on the safe side your reply envelope should always be marked: PLEASE DO NOT BEND and be at least 9x12" (A4) in size.

Sending an SASE is the best way to get an autographed picture because the celebrity doesn't have to purchase stamps, all they have to do is put the picture/whatever they want to (some celebrities send both a picture & a letter back to you) into the SASE & put it in the mail.

It is basically an envelope with your own address on the front, which the celeb or their agent will use to mail back an autograph to you.

And I'm yet confused. Can you please explain clear to me what this is? If I sent an envelope with my letter in it, and my address on the top left hand corner, and the address I want to sent it to in the center, and a stamp in the top right hand corner, is this enough to get a reply? Or do I need to do something else? The celeb address I'm trying to contact is in the United States, and I live in the United States, so is an SASE necessary? Please respond, I'm desperate to find out.

Thanks, :)

A SASE is still neccesary. It's an envelope with your address on it, and enough postage stamps for them to return it to you. You put it inside your main envelope, along with letter and any photos you are sending.

You do this so that the celebrity doesn't have to pay postage costs to return your autograph. They're doing you a favour remember, so you make it as easy as possible for them to reply.

SAE: self addressed envelope. An envelope with your address on.
SASE/SSAE: self addressed stamped envelope. An envelope with your address on AND stamps.

If you're sending abroad, you send an SAE along with International Reply Coupons (buy them in post offices) which they can use to purchase stamps. If you're sending within your own country, send an SASE.
