Some shows will add postage, some will not. Always send a SAE, but if you leave out postage its like a MAYBE YES or MAYBE NO entirely. Some shows (like PHANTOM OF THE OPERA and WICKED) obviosuly have longer/more money making runs and usually have some sort of way to paying for it (Wicked especially). Some other shows, especially the ones you're probably intending on writing with the the celebrities won't, simply because that's like giving you a free $10, which is why some shows DO NOT give out playbills. They know there are people out there who get them and put them on Ebay.com (Look at Legally Blonde...always on there!).

there are a lot of shows who will still send signed playbills - but it could be hit or miss if you don't send at least a SAE. I would always try to include postage with the request. There are a lot of plays that are on tight budgets (especially in todays economy) so it's really only courteous if you send postage for something you want.

i've written to a lot of shows lately, and I haven't heard back, like Equus, A Man For All Seasons, All My Sons, The Seagull.. do you think that perhaps my letter isn't been passed on as it's coming from an international source? As I know this sometimes happens me with film sets. :/

Nope...stick in there.

I would assume that the top 3 shows right now for Cast-Signed playbills are: Wicked (always), Equus (look whose starring 1) and All My Sons (look whose starring 2).

Also keep in mind that you are international and won't received answers as quickly!

And just to note..it's long but it's helpful!:

--The Seagull is a relatively new show, and playbills may have not come about to get signed yet. (Wait can be anywhere between a week and 6 months) Opening was only a couple weeks ago.
--No successes from my knowledge (including my own sending) have received signed playbills by the cast. I've heard some from Daniel himself, Richard himself, and even (I'm forgetting her name, forgive me).
--All My Sons I have only recently heard (within this week) that someone got a success back from them cast-signed. I don't know what they wrote/when they sent it/etc., but they did note that the four stars signed it.
--Lastly, Roundabout Theatre Company (which is the theatre company/producer behind all shows at The American Airlines Theatre and Studio 54 (Theatre)) rarely sends playbills through the mail; cast signed or non-signed. The only one I have ever received was Les Liaisons Dangerou.... which was actually at the AA Theatre. You may want to try Frank Langella (I'm assuming that's who you're writing) at this venue just by himself. Roundabout does definanetly pass on fanmail.

Lastly, as said above by me (and basically re-worded/added to by Selise), shows sometimes will not send because of eBay threats or postage costs (extremely rare). I can't think of too many shows that run on a 500000$ weekly running costs that can't spend $20 on stamps a week, but it's certainly more helpful if the show you're seeing isn't making too much! (LOL).

Also, to my understanding it's the annual (sometimes bi-/tri-/four or more!) BCEFA's Charity "outings"...at the end of the show they ask the audience to donate as much as they can or however much they see fit, and if you want to spend usually $60 for a signed WindowCard/Poster, or $20 for a cast-signed playbill. (Playbills aren't usually more) Some shows (I noticed [tos] did), may request that you donate to the charity, in which case I hope you do. It's a great charity to help women, children and men who are currently living in the city and are suffering from AIDS. On their website from time to time (and under the eBay username: BROADWAY AUCTION or something similar!) you can find some hard-to-find playbills, souvenir programmes, window cards, keychains, etc. which mostly goes to the organization. Also on their website, it's not rare to find props/set pieces/older stuff up for auction (And if you have $4000 to kill, you may even get to be in the show for one night!). Def check it out, and this could also be the reason why the playbill situation is slow right now.

This is my thread in the VV section: http://www.fanmail.biz/mboard/viewtopic ... 5&t=111790

Hang in there - I only live about 45 minutes away from NYC so it is close for me to get a signed playbill.

Thanks man, I'll hang in there. Coincidentally, I did receive my A Man For All Seasons playbill signed by Frank Langella on Friday, and I've seen successes come in for All My Sons and The Seagull on BroadwayWorld, so hopefully mine are on the way!
Last season, I was getting my playbills back within about 2 weeks (I got one from The Homecoming in 6 days! US to Ireland, 6 days! Crazy!), so my expectations are probably a little high!
I really hope to get The Seagull back though. I adore Zoe Kazan and Peter Sarsgaard.
