Fanmail.biz Awards - Test being run in General Discussions

I pm'ed admin last night about this topic and asked if he would like that idea for the forum, as I personally think it would create a positive atmosphere here between the members. He sent me the following pm, giving the idea thumbs up:

If you can send me a list of categories (Best IP Autograph Collectors, Best Avatar, Best Signature...) and an icon for each of them, i will add them to the message board.

So, that's what I would like to know from all of you - we need your help for cool, exciting categories and an icon for it. {thumb2} After each new post here who added a category, I'll post it below so we can see what has already been mentioned.

Best Graphic Maker -
Best In Person Success -
Best TTM Success -
Best Autograph Website -
Best Fanmail Team Member (TM, Mod,GM and AE) -
Best Site Contributer -
Friendliest Member -
Best Newbie (registered in the past 5 months) -

Feel free to remove some too - that's just first thing that came to my mind! Also, please note these awards, just as the $10 gift certficate one, is monthly to give everyone a fair chance. :razz:

Now, when this system is ready to be added, I came up with an idea on how to nominate and vote for members for different categories:
- Admin could add a new forum under the "Non Autograph Related Topics" forum.
- Inside that forum named "Fanmail.biz Awards", there's lots of topics for each seperate category, for example "Best Avatar of the month", "Best In Person Success of the month", etc.
- For each category/topic, there would be a specific Moderator controlling and setting up the polls for that award.
- Members simply post a link to the success/post the avatar/siggy/etc of the item they'd like to nominate. The Moderator choose the best 5, for example, and sets up a poll for members to start voting throughout the next month. Thus, topics could either get edited everytime or a new topic could get made and last month's deleted, depending on the situation.
- A main topic, which will be stickied at the top of the page, will contain all of the past and current winners, same as the $10 gift certificate topic in the "Feedback" forum.
- Rules on how to vote must be added as a sticky - someone could set up rules after everything is in order.

Please feel free to add your ideas too - this is just my thoughts and it's not even final yet, so we need your opinions! {thumb2}

Hi Liz

Thanks for taking the initiative to alert admin about this, I thought it was a great idea when I saw it! Here are my suggestions :

- I think it should be a sub-forum under general discussion.

- I agree with all your current categories, and I think the following could be pretty cool too :

Best (autograph-related) Website
Best Moderator (applies to Global, Normal and Trainee mods)
Best Site Contributor (in terms of things like sharing addresses, providing others with knowledge of the hobby, answering questions, etc)
Most Friendliest Member

- I'm not too good with the icons thing so I'll leave that to someone more creative perhaps an envelope for Best TTM success though? And for Most Friendliest Member, perhaps this guy ->

I think this is awesome- just need to find someone who can make some cool icons ( I am not the best at graphics work, but I will try to make some drafts of a few). The only thing I was going to ask, concerning the best sig- who gets the credit, the user or the original maker (a lot of our members use signatures made by other users), and also what about people who use ones that were created or taken from another site?

Very good thought on the signature one. We'd need to figure something out about this topic and how to avoid people stealing credit from other users

Otherwise, this whole award thing is a great idea!

Very cool point, Matt, I haven't even thought about that! But, here's what I think we can do mabey:
- We have an award for "Best Graphic Maker" and "Best Siggy" and "Best Avatar". The person who makes the best graphics (siggy's and/or avatars) win the "Best Graphic Maker" award and the member who uses the best signature/avatar, gets awarded "Best Siggy" or "Best Avatar". Let me know what your thoughts are on this idea!
