Profanity in the Forums

Unread post by lutherjw »

Hi,

Is it against the forum rules to use profanity in the forums? I recently saw a post where someone used profanity. Should I give this person a warning?

Thanks,

Joel

I don't think that this should be allowed, just because this is supposed to be a family like forum. Like Cutie, i have seen people do this and i haven't known what to do! Thanks for informing us :D

Hi lutherjw :|

Thank you for reporting the problem {up}

You can give this user a warning if you think that it is necessary.

Please post the link to the thread.

Well... I don't think that the user should be given a warning. I mean if the minimum age is 13, then don't you think that everybody is mature enough to handle a bad word or two.

Don't get me wrong. I don't think so highly of profanity, but a warning isn't really needed.

There are enough moderators to control the language. If we see any, then we just go and edit the post. I did that a while back when I saw some "questionable language".

I would only give a warning if the user keeps using profanity or just makes a profanity filled post.

Just my opinion.

Hi all,

I agree with rpbluesman on this one {up}

I would totally agree with giving a warning for the usage of a very bad swear word, f-word etc.

You also have to appreciate that acceptance and usage of language differs depending which country the user is resident in. As we all know there are quite a large number of words which have different meanings between country, or their degree of meaning is different.

I think we should delete / edit such posts and PM the member to ask them not to use the same language in the future. If they then persist, then I wholeheartedly agree that the warning scheme should be used.

There is nothing to stop a moderator from leaving a post in this forum telling others that they have spotted and PM'ed a member, without resorting to warnings straight off.

Just my pennies worth :wink:

I agree with the collector. Little words like hell or damn arent that bad. Dropping the f bomb should be a no no. We shouldnt abuse the warning system. We have the power to edit posts so we can always erase them. Just my thoughts.
