has anyone tried to send rowan atkinson or the whole cast of oliver! a autograph programme request yet? because i was going to try to send one but wanted to see if anyone had success.

So you know, in the UK, you must pay for programmes. The programmes are not free like Playbills.

On top of what Selise said, you should know this is NOT a West End custom. I've written to FOUR West End Shows, put UK stamps even on the SASE and sent over $USD for a programme / signed one, but nothing. I've sent to three shows, and absolutely nothing: EVITA, Les Miserables & Phantom of the Opera. Not my money back, no flier,..no response. Nothing!

It is only accostumed for the stars to sign fliers usually. I've written to four West End Stars via venues: Maria Friedman (who sent me back a song list from her solo-concert show at the Donmar), Linzi Hately sent me a headshot & Mamma Mia! Flier (and a picture I sent her), Ruthie Henshall sent me a Marguerite flier and a headshot...and I sent another time not purposely but hadn't heard back & closing: I sent about $5 USD and she got me a programme & signed it; the American Jill Paice sent me a signed programme also, but I also sent money.

So if you're looking for some West End advice, I'd ask the member on here named: Pheobe. She recently got a cast-signed poster from Joseph.... that she sent. Other than that I can't help too much...! Try to write to your favourite star or request a flier or something? Good luck!

This is a really interesting thread, I'm glad I read through the last few pages as it's already answered some of my questions.

I'm considering getting autographs from cast members of musicals etc, and although I knew playbill was more of an American thing than a UK custom, it's a shame to hear that even if you send money to pay for the official programmme, the chances are you won't get anything back. I would have loved to have gotten some signed West End stuff.

My only question I have is: what is the best way to phrase your request? Do you have to go into detail about why you want it and what you like about the show etc etc? Like you would if you were writing to a specific person?

I just sent out the will ferrell play and requested signed playbill. anyone send out to him yet for a playbill

I wouldn't have sent to him yet. I'll probably be sending on Monday if I decide to try.

Sometimes, if you send too early, the theatre will throw away the request. (Had that happen to me a few times)
