Hi! ;-)

I get discouraged all the time, especially when I post the letter, I always think "why am I even doing this? when was the last time I even got a reply?!". :( But you really get surprised, I have had many unexpected replies lately so don't give up just yet! {thumb2} As Ryan said, if you're worried about secretarial signers, you could always just ask in the "Is My Autograph Authentic?" forum and we could help you, but I always do thorough research before sending my letter so I can be 100% sure about the authenticy when I get a reply! {up} So none of my autographs can even be argued being secretarial! :lol:

Just be patient with the "Twilight" cast, they're easily the most recognizable and popular people in the industry at the moment! ;-) They replied via the "Twilight" movie set, so some of them might just do the same via "New Moon" (although I'm not too sure, if the address gets spammed, half of them might start sending preprints).

Good luck!

I get discouraged just thinking of the postal service! A friend of a friend (lol) is a mail-man and he told me that when they don't feel like delivering the mail assigned to them for the day, they just dump it somewhere. :mad:

I also dread to think of how many of my responses have perhaps been delivered to someone else, because I get other people's mail all the time! {down}
AUTHENTIC, OR NOTHING AT ALL.

Just for the record, what your mail man friend said they do is illegal. Tampering with the mail is a crime. Receiving someone elses mail is ok as long as you don't open it--opening someone elses' mail is when the problmes come-- and get it back into the mail system so it CAN be delivered to the right person/

It helps because I use my family adderss and they ALWAYS get something in the mail so I know the mail is being delivered. {up}

I get discouraged pretty easily. The worst was probably my 38 days of dry spell last fall. I sincerely thought somebody at the post office is creating a collection for him/herself :D

Also I was pretty disappointed when I spent a lot of money to write to Stargate Atlantis and Fringe venues when they were shooting the series. I went to the exchange office to get about twenty 1USD bills (I figured sending cash would be better for them than IRCs), had nice photos printed, everything... and I've never heard back.

I have written three times to Christian Bale and never heard back, lost 2 DVD covers this way :(

Plus also there is my 170-days-and-counting wait for Amanda Tapping which can sometimes be pretty discouraging just by itself.

So yeah... I get discouraged approximately every other day :D But in the end I always send some more requests out, hoping for the best.

I totally know what you mean. I plan to send something to them early and hope for the best this time around. I mean i'd even be happy for a promotional pre print haha. I just want a pretty picture. I mean, for me, knowing something authentic is fantastic but even Pre prints are still nice... Im ranting.. don't mind me :P

Wow Reav I can definitely see how that would be tough :(

I'm actually sending out MORE than usual. Since I found this site and read all the successes I've become more motivated to send out more. You guys are getting some autographs of people that I've completely forgotten about.

I know it sounds cliche, but just keep waiting! I waited for at least 4 years before I got my Placido Domingo autograph - and I lost track of how many letters I sent him.

I've had dry spells that have lasted over 3 months, and when you get something in the mail it's fantastic.
If you want authentic autographs, check in the "Is My Autograph Authentic" forum and see who sends out PP, AP and Secretarials.. and choose not to send to them. :)

Another tip - send only what you can afford (monetarily or otherwise) afford to lose.

Remember, this is a hobby - it should be fun. When it stops being fun, then stop.

Personally, I've sent out more in 2009 then I did in all of 2008, and I haven't gotten many successes yet, but they should come in soon.

Try to write to other stars that you like, not just the ones that are in the spotlight right now - you might have better success.
Favorite Autographs: Luciano Pavarotti (IP), Joan Baez, Dorothy Hammill (IP)

That's very helpful! Thanks very much :)
I mean I have a part time job so buying stamps (and stealing some from the rents ;) ) isn't that bad for me and i have a ton of 9x12s. i bought a box of 100ish quite some time ago. I think I may write out some letters today and mail them early next week.

I agree seeing successes is definitely encouraging. I also think collecting is a lot of fun. I love checking the mail and seeing a big envelope and wondering who it could be.

I just wish a lot of the people i <3333 would sign TTM. I'm not a big risk taker. I also feel with the economy the way it is taking a lot of risks could have it's downsides so I always wait until i see a few successes before sending.

Do any of you guys know about the Harry Potter cast stuff. I've seen some people have just sent a letter and have gotten back a nice PP with no SASE or anything. Is it worth me giving it a shot? Also how many stamps should i put on just a regular business size envelope ? (I live in the US, sending to the studios in the UK)

I think tonight I am going to write Demi Lovato & Kellan Lutz and prepare to mail to their agencies. I've found I've had the most luck at agency addresses.
How did we get here? I used to know you so well

i dont really get discouraged to send but my thing is i only like to send a few times a year, because it does cost money to send and it cost around 13 dollars to send 6 letters plus 6 sases. and your never gurranteed a autograph yes their are some signers who are just better at signing so ya. but ya i dont really get discouraged from sending in general but their are particular people who ive been discouraged from writing and then in the end ive decided to write to someone else who i planned to wait for next time to write to, but man did it work for the better both times i got great succes from these people who i decided to write to last minute. and the people i didnt write to ive seen very few succeses from. but i do know if i had a really bad sending period i would not send for a extremly long time.
