Sending cash instead of IRC's
Has anyone sent cash instead of IRC's from the US to any other country? Did it work? Reason being I have to stop at other post offices since my local post office does not have any IRC's. If there are any foreign collectors on this forum, would cash be easier or harder since you'd have to go to another location to convert the money to your local currency?

Re: Sending cash instead of IRC's
Hi,
I think that sending cash is better than sending IRC's but you always need to send the currency of the country you're sending your request to! If you send 2 USD to for example Czech Republic, it would be pretty pointless since such small amounts are not exchangable (only at bank and with 10-20% fee).
So if you plan on writing a few letters to UK, I suggest you get some pounds

Re: Sending cash instead of IRC's
Cash should be used as a last resort if you can't get IRC's. I haven't tried it personally, but if you do make sure you conceal it well in the event it gets stolen.
I think others on the forum have tried sending money, perhaps someone could tell us how successful it is.
You should try and purchase stamps from the relevant country you're sending to - it'll be cheaper and easier if you can get it. Maybe try do a swap with others on the forum if you can.

Re: Sending cash instead of IRC's
Why should it be used as a last resort? I think sending cash is even better than sending IRCs because if the agency or the actor have some stamps, they can use them and send the letter without going to the post office and exchanging IRC for stamps. I have had 100% success rate when sending cash (Daniel Radcliffe doesn't count).

Sending British pounds is a bad idea, they're very heavy.Reav wrote:Why should it be used as a last resort? Re: Sending cash instead of IRC's
I'm mainly interested in sending to the UK and Australia. I wouldn't know where to get british pounds or australian dollars (currency exchanges?). As far as the amount, I'd probably send $20 which I think would easily cover any postage from either the UK or Australia back to the US. Thank reav for your input as well as everyone else. If anyone has sent cash, please let me know how it went. Did your money get stolen or you never received your autographs?

Re: Sending cash instead of IRC's
I have the exact same situation. I live in Bahrain and I doubt anyone here's ever heard of IRCs.. Yes, I asked the post offices lol.
Anyway, yes I do send cash. $2-$3 to people such as Ryan Sheckler, Shia Labeouf, Carmine Giovinazzo
I've received most of them back.
Most recent request with cash was to Slash, I really hope he replies because he's a guitar legend and I love Guns n Roses
Good Luck!

osiris: Yeah they are
But for me it was a great way to get rid of the leftovers from my January London visit

Scorpius: 20 USD is too much, if you don't plan on sending some really heavy stuff. Some 8x10s and a cardboard piece to protect them in an envelope should be more like 5 USD.
