West End Oliver! - In Person?

Unread post by Phoebe »

Hello, I am in London early April and I really wanted to stage door at the new production of Oliver! in the West End at the Theatre Royal Drury Lane before the 7:30PM evening performance on a Monday. I know that it is best to go after the show with Oliver, but this is my only opportunity and I wanted to know: what sort of time the cast would arrive for the show, bearing in mind that there is no Matinee showing that day?

I am most interested in getting Jodie Prenger really, but if it was possible I'd like to get Burn Gorman, Rowan Atkinson (know he can be tricky), Julian Bleach and the performing 'Oliver' of that day. I'd love to get some Oliver! merchandise signed.

Thanks very much!

Hi Phoebe!

As you seem to already know, stage dooring before a show is not really a good time. Plenty of performers will NOT sign you, but of course there's usually a few that will. (Plenty don't because they know you're not seeing the show, or rather assuming :), so if you are, tell them "good luck" or "break a leg" at the show/etc.)

It's almost universally customery to walk into the box office location and see the board of performers (if you haven't taken note to it before). Such as this may read:

" Woman in White
A New Musical
at the Palace Theatre

Starring (in order of appearance):
Marian - Maria Friedman
Count Fosco - Michael Ball
Walter Hartright - U / S Adrian der Gregorian
Laura Fairlie - Jill Paice
Sir Percival Glyde - Oliver Darley
ENSEMBLE:
"

So even if you're not buying/picking up tickets, that will be your source to see whose on /etc.

I don't really know about buying merchandise before the show - something you'll have to call / walk into the box office and inquierer about!

Best of luck! Hopefully someone else can help you too!

(Maybe check out the 'In Person' part of this forum and say "Request/Help - Oliver! West End")

Thanks for your help TheScarletPimpernel, I'll bear all that in mind! I am actually going to see the show hopefully on a trip in June, but I'm unlikely to be able to stage door then as we have a planned schedule. Perhaps I should mention that I will be seeing the show?

Absolutely. Otherwise, I know over here, plenty of celebs think that's stalking-esque/creepy when people are waiting for them. So DEF mention that you are seeing the show! May also give you something to mini-talk about..!
