Underage User/ TM

Hi,

Admin told us the min age requirement for all Fanmail users is 13.

This TM is 12 (details can be found in the "who are you" thread) :

So what do we do with him/ her ?

Maybe a temporary ban? Just until her birthday.
She's a very nice girl, we've spoken a few times via PM, but she is breaking the rules.
If we're going to start cracking down on this age limit thing then we can't give anyone special treatment.

I dont think theres really anything we can do. I dont think admin would let you ban someone for that reason

Yes that's true. And I just remembered Admin saying if someone is under 13 but they got their parents permission then they are fine to be members. I'm sure her parents would keep track of the sites she visits at her age, and if she's still a regular visitor here then they must be ok with it!

Sorry, but I had to smile at this comment. It is extremely easy for a teen to keep their parents in the dark about the internet pages viewed.

Could we at least demote them until they hit that age limit? I seem to remember a while back that someone in authority was underaged and normal members were mad about it. Gives the site a bad name.

You were hiding the sites you viewed online at twelve? That's quite shocking to me. I'm sorry but everyone has different upbringings so you shouldn't laugh at me because I didn't keep secrets from my parents at that age.

Hayley I don't think she was laughing at you. BossC makes a very good point. While there are those kids who will tell their parents everything including websites they visit there will be kids who either don't need to because parents don't care or can get by without having to tell them. It does have a lot to do with upbringing and such for sure.
I think it's reasonable to demote her until she reaches the age limit, but who's to say there aren't others under the limit, so we'd need to ensure that everyone has hit 13 before we can actually demote him/her for that reason. Just my thought.

Yeah I didn't realise this happened until BossC said it, that's why I was shocked. To me, twelve is still a kid. But the fact is, if a member knows they're gonna get demoted/banned because they don't have their parents permission then they're obviously going to claim they do! So I don't think we could really win with that one. But yeah if you think demoting her until she turns 13 is best then go ahead, you're her team leader Larisie so it's your decision

At 12 you ARE starting to think your parents know nothing and you think you are "mature" and can make your own decisions.

Some kids' parents don't care, but we might at least ASK people their age before we promote them to TM.

Yeah sorry I didn't like how I worded that post. I'm sorry if I sounded rude or anything. I was just going by what I was like when I was that age, but I realise now that not everyone is like that.
