Re: Playbill Collectors
that's great.
I got an autographed wicked photo (from the song popular)- its from the SF cast so it's signed by Kendra Kassebaum and Teal Wicks. But I'm really happy with it, I got it yesterday when I went to see Wicked again, but it's a great photo and it helps Broadway Cares.

David Hyde Pierce (c/o Accent on Youth)
Angela Lansbury (c/o Blithe Spirit)
Blithe Spirit (Stage Manager)
Little Mermaid (Stage Manager)
Hair (Stage Manager)
Elicia MacKenzie (c/o Sound of Music Toronto - they dont have playbills, but have programmes)
Mamma Mia (Stage Manager)
West Side Story (Stage Manager)
33 Variations (Stage Manager)
I sent playbills to:
Clive Revill
Whoopi Goldberg
Sending requests to next:
Avenue Q
Wicked
Phantom
Shrek
Are there any other good signers that I should add to my list?
Thanks!

Since you asked, however, I will give my thoughts on the ones you said:
David Hyde Pierce (c/o Accent on Youth) -- Always reliable, but he can take his time.!
Angela Lansbury (c/o Blithe Spirit) -- Always been a fast fanmail returning
Blithe Spirit (Stage Manager) I think tehre was a success on here; it's starring the lovely Christine Ebersole - Lansbury is featured.
Little Mermaid (Stage Manager) - Seem to respond in cycles
Hair (Stage Manager) - Have yet to see a success - sent about a week ago.
Elicia MacKenzie (c/o Sound of Music Toronto - they dont have playbills, but have programmes) - Hopefully you sent money / did your research to see if their programmes cost money, you sent or some; if not you'll probably get a nice headshot.
Mamma Mia (Stage Manager) - Answers in cycles
West Side Story (Stage Manager) - Took about 3 weeks I believe
33 Variations (Stage Manager) _ Lots of successes on here
Again, may I please explain for everyone -- this is not aimed DIRECTLY at you.
If you only want a particular autograph (clearly seems you're after Ms. Lansbury's and NOT Ebersole's & Company of Blithe Spirit), only write to them. Plenty of people adore Ebersole, amongst the others in the cast, and would value their autograph more than you who are looking to increase your auto count, or get a quick autograph with a thoughtless note. Many people aspire to be these types of actors/actresses, which if you listen to anyone such as Mary Louise-Parker, Antonio Banderas...the list goes on, is one of the absolute most difficult forms of acting - Ask Terrence Howard, I'm sure he'd have a list of complaints for you.
So again: Please, if you want Lansbury's...write to ANGELA herself. Don't write to the stage manager. This particular hobby is getting increasingly rare-r, thanks to many Auto collectors who sell them on eBay (which is plenty of people on here...) or elsewhere. Plenty of people keep writing to Guys & Dolls (all they want is Lauren Graham - I doubt you know the other star: Kate Jennings Grant) or 33 Variations (all they want is Jane Fonda)....if you see the play, it's a different story, but considering so many of you are international or from California or Illinois, .. I can only imagine what you pull in those letters. Maybe enjoyment for the stage manager/assistants.

I appreciate your feedback, but I think it is quite rude to say I am not a true fan.TheScarletPimpernel wrote:JamesFan wrote:I have sent out a number of requests today. How many do you think I will get back? Each one included a letter and a SASE.

I am a huge fan of broadway productions in general and love to collect signed playbills from any show. I am a fan of most of the shows I am writing to and have the soundtracks to many of them on my computer, I have over 60 musical soundtracks. My reason for asking is that some of you have far more experience collecing playbills, I only have a dozen or so. I want to know which shows are worth my while, and which are a wast of time trying to get a playbill. I know some people are reselling them on ebay, and I understand why that makes people mad, I dont like it either.
Re: Playbill Collectors
The Theatre Programmes here in Toronto are free.
This month I saw Spring Awakening, We Will Rock You, and Jersey Boys. I have the programmes from all 3.

The thing I didn't like was that you asked whose good signers. If you're new to this board, you probably haven't seen the countless threads that come up with people wondering who they should write -- and plenty of people on here are only requesting playbills for a quick response, an easy letter, jump in the autograph signature counts....it's ridicoulous. Tons on this board.
*EDIT*: The two mainstream people on Broadway on your list are very well-known outside the theatre community; if you were to say someone like Jill Paice, perhaps, then I could say she is a wonderful signer or a horrible signer-- you can try writing her here for the time being. You leaving it open seems like you wanted an answer like "Def write to Megan Hilty in 9to5. She's a great signer and sends out tons of pictures." -- Again, I'm honestly not trying to be rude but considering this is the main people whom I write, I like to defend them / promote them in a good way,...not a cheap autograph.
Re: Playbill Collectors
Does anyone here collect vintage Playbills?
I sent a vintage Mame and Sweeney Todd Playbill to Angela Lansbury in February. I am hoping she signs them when her current play is over. I also just sent a vintage playbill to Clive Revill, he is a very fast signer from what I have read.
Angela Lansbury
635 North Bonhill Rd.
Los Angeles, CA 90049

Re: Playbill Collectors
That is SO cool! I'm totally new to the Play Bill collecting, so I don't have any vintage ones.
I'm SUCH a HUGE fan of Angela Lansbury! That's awesome that you sent those to her! It would have been so cool to see her in Sweeny Todd!

Re: Playbill Collectors
My oldest playbill is from 1979 - Patti LuPone, Mandy Patinkin & Bob Guton / et al in the original run of EVITA. Everything else is from the '90s...and onward!
Re: Playbill Collectors
I just bought a playbill from the first Broadway show to lose one million dollars. lol
Via Galactica only played for 7 shows in 1972. I got it because it is signed by composer Galt MacDermot and he also composed Hair.
