Salutation

Unread post by matze16 »

Hello :D

I have just a short question... I am planning to write to Sir Ian McKellen.
How do I have to start my letter?

a) Dear Sir McKellen,
...

b) Dear Mr. McKellen,
...

Thanks so much in advance!

Many regards,
matze16

Hi matze16! ;)

He's Sir Ian McKellen, so I would write "Dear Sir McKellen". {thumb2} When I wrote to him in 2007, I wrote my letter like that and also addressed the envelope to Sir Ian McKellen. :)

Hope this helps, and good luck with your request!

Hi Matthias,

when I wrote ti him, I was also wondering this, and then I chose Dear Mr McKellen, so I don't think it really matters, but I'm no expert on addressing people with titles, so I might have written it wrong :D .

Hello matze16,

I would put Sir. McKellan probably but I'm sure either would be fine.

Best of luck to you with your request! {thumb2}

P.s: How did you get your signature to show on your posts?! :)

The same applies to me  Sometimes I am really shilly-shally about that

I add my signature manually to each post, I just couldn't wait until signatures work again.
(If you quote one of my posts you will notice it {thumb2})

Best regards,

Oh I see that's how you did it! Thanks, I'll have to try that.

Technically, you should write "Sir Ian McKellen" or "Sir Ian" not "Sir McKellen", since the "Sir" is attached to the first name not the surname.
