They are different, just because both of the currencies have the same name doesn't mean they are same. Yes, they're both dollars, but they have dollars for example also in Australia and you can't use them anywhere else. Every country has its own currency, unless tey have an agreement on a common currency (most of the member countries of the European Union use Euro, for instance).
