Re: BROADWAY NYC PRODUCTiON ADDRESSES **6/4/09 - UPDATED!!!***
Oh it should also be noted that sometimes it doesn't matter how long the show is running to determine if it's a flop or not...lots of things got into it: Size of the cast, cost of the set, creators involved, what A-listers (both Broadway and celebrity A-listers) are asking for, publcitiy/marketing, so much...
Jekyll & HYDE - The Musical (one of, if not my favourite ever) ran on Broadway for FOUR years and still couldn't make back $1.5 of it's $7 MIL initial budget. That had some fancy moves (such as fire coming out of a cane, for example), an expensive set, and Linda Eder probably didn't come for free. Then in it's last year it starred in it's title roles three HUGE names: Jack Wagner (Melrose Place star in the '90s), SEBESTIAN BACH (of Skid Row!), and of course, the biggest one: DAVID HASSELHOFF, who financed the show being filmed for commercial purposes himself! (Which however bad he was .. I am forever grateful!).
Then there's a slew of shows that make it back fast: Phantom of the Opera made back it's money in a matter of months......back in 1988! Go figure!

Thanks for telling!nightowl wrote:Wookieelover,
I have seen two successes from James Gandolfini out of God of Carnage. These are not playbills I am referring to but individual successes.
This was at the beginning, or just before. Since then I have not seen anything. I have a friend that sent to him and she hasn't received any reply.

Also should be noted: THe production is closing for about a month while people like Gandolfini and Jeff Daniels have other obligations, but then re-opening, so if you send quikc enough (I think it's closing in 3 weeks), he may respond during that little time he has off.WookieeLover wrote:Thanks for telling!nightowl wrote:Wookieelover,

Whoever said they wanted to see Beauty and the Beast back on Broadway/hadn't seen it, watch this video! It's from two years ago when it closed and they did a Memory-reel of interviews and press reels documenting the show's stars.

The Belles include Christy Carlson Romano, Annalese van der Pol, Debbie Gibson and a slew of others. Real interesting and a nice documentation of what it looked like on stage, and of course the big songs

I took my daughters to see B&tB when Christy Carlson Romano was Belle. It was very good.

Cool cool - did you like her? I know some people loved her, some people hated her (from her Musical Theatre abilities strictly!) - unlike Annaleise van der Pol she actually loved being in it / signing at the stagedoor / etc.!zipbags wrote:I took my daughters to see B&tB when Christy Carlson Romano was Belle. She wasn't feeling great when we saw her. So her voice was a bit off. And since she wasn't feeling good..She didn't come out to sign. But, she did have someone come out and hand out signed photos. I actually met her a few years ago and a trade show.TheScarletPimpernel wrote:Cool cool - did you like her? What was the story with Anna Leise? She didn't like doing the show?

Annalese is surprisingly a big fan of the theatrical sides of acting / wants to pursue that. In fact, she is currently starring in a 3-woman musical (with the LOVELY Lauren Kennedy) called "Vanities" off-Broadwya for a limited run.
I wasn't that big of a fan of her voice (which you can hear -- along with Christy anda slew of other Belles) and apparently she was forced to stage door - and she didn't like all the small children or something. Really not sure of the whole story, but nearly everyone said she was very disrespectful at the stage door to her fans!
