I don't know. It might be more likely that he responded himself in the early days of his career, hard to know for sure though. In his office in New York there are lost of artist that draw the Garfield comic and sign his name under it day in day out.

I am glad that I spent the cash,$100 or so, on the animated cel though and got a legit autograph
