Printing Photos

For those of you that print most of your photos, do you use a photo ink cartridge? Photo paper? What kind do you look for? I never print my own photos, I usually take my memory card to the store and print them there. What do you think? Is it better to put photos on a memory card or cd and print at the store, or do you recommend to print at home? Is it cheaper, better quality...what do you think???

If you have the option of printing them off at a professional photolab.....DO IT! they use high quality materials and they last WAY longer than if you printed them off at home. I've been using photo lab photos for a couple of years now and I wouldn't switch back.

I actually do print at home because I don't have a lot of money to pay for professional photo printing. I use Kodak, glossy photo paper and my printer gives me different options for what sort of paper I'm using. It prints out my photos okay. True, they aren't high quality, professional photos, but they do the trick. I have an HP inkjet printer (not the best and I'm actually going to get a newer, updated printer) But it does the trick. Plus it's more convenient for me to just walk into my living room and print at home and send them off in my own mailbox. But I'd say if you can go get them professional printer, then do it.

You know I am not really sure. I am close to a Walgreens, Meijer, Target, Wal-Mart, Sears, and Jewel. I am not sure since I don't print photos, what do you think would be the best? There is a few machines for customers to use, but I am not sure if they print right away or if they go to the store associate and they finish it up. I guess I have to 'scope' it out. Any immediate way to find out, or just go and check??? Any better lab, ink or paper at a store? Or are they all the same???

Yes, it's D.I.Y. Basically you walk up to the machine, put in your CD or Portable flash drive that has the photos you want, pick either days or one-hour service (I use 1-hour because of the matte finish) and then start selecting the photos you want to print and which sizes you want them printed at (4x6, 5x7, 8x10). Then hit finished! They photo lab employees will help if you need assistance. {thumb2}

I use Wal-mart as that's the only one that has one in my area. The machines they have there are one-hour & the instant kind (less than ten minutes, but quality is very poor compared to 1-hour) My wal-mart uses nice Kodak Crystal archive photo paper (With a microscope you can actually see the tiny reflective crystals! ) and high -quality inks WAY better than your home printer inks. {thumb2}

The thing you might run into though is actually getting them to print the photos for you. My wal-mart doesn't have a problem with it. I just explained that I only print these to get signed and am not making a profit off of them by re-selling. They said that's fine and nothing more was said! Now I'm on good terms with all the employees and am their most frequent customer. {thumb2}

HA HA. That's funny!!! So, go with the 1 hour photo? Does that mean they print them, instead of the machine? I know a few people there, so I hope it's not a problem. OK. I am off right now to give it a whirl. Thanks for your input.

WOW!!! So, I went into Wal-Mart like you recommended and I know a girl that works there. She knows my whole family. I told her what I was doing and she said OK. She didn't seem to care. Her manager told her that she couldn't print them because they were professional pictures and they needed a copyright release from each photographer. Yeah. I am going to call/email/write to each photographer. What a bummer. So what would you do in my situation? Print the instant ones or try another store?

Well even if you print the instant ones they photo employee will still have to look at them and count them. Best bet is to try another store that will let you print them off. It would be pretty hard trying to contact all those photographers since many don't even feature a name on them. :neutral:
