It's quite possible this is real. Most of the employees who work at thrift stores sometimes don't realize what signed books like that cost. they might not even have looked inside it, just slapped a price sticker on it and put it on the shelf. I've gone to my goodwill and thrift shops and have seen autographed items before. {thumb2}Dannyman utd 4 life wrote:believe wot u want but thts sec! u cant honestly be serious by a martin luther king jr autograph from a shop for $3.00. cmin get real these type of things are worth thousands not pocket money. also you can search on the internet it says martin used to get his secretary to sign most of his autographs. good luck with selling it u gna put it up for $5.00. upto to you but feel free to wake up any time soon {thumb2} my opinion Dannyman utd 4 life

It could absolutely be real. Their was a story that made national news a few years ago. A guy goes to a flea market and buys a cheap painting for $4. When he took it out to reframe. He finds an original copy of the Declaration of independence. He eventually sold it for over 8 million...yes 8 million.
Here is the story from Snopes....

Nowhere near as grand a find as MLK, but I have probably found about 350 or so autographed books in charity shops in the UK for prices ranging from 10p to £5. This is just in the last 4 to 5 years. I did not look before this. Most tend to be £1 to £3. I mainly go for biographies and factual books. Most I have kept but some have been sold and traded to help my collection in other ways, plus I have donated some for other charity fundraising. The ones I kept can be seen on my website. Possibly due to airbases in nearby areas, but I have also found a lot of cool USA signed books in UK charity shops.JamesLarden wrote:Wow! So, just look around charity shops? Some favourites are (all are hardback 1st editions except Peter Benchley - The Beast paperback) - Cherie Booth (now Blair) & Cate Haste (dual signed), Dulcie Gray & Michael Denison (dual signed), Sir John Mills & Mary Hayley Bell (dual signed), Eric Morecambe & Ernie Wise (dual signed), Peter Benchley, Dirk Bogarde, Kenneth Branagh, Michael Crawford, Walter Cronkite, Kirk Douglas, Stewart Granger, Edward Heath x2 (former PM), Charlton Heston, Lord Home (former PM), Louise Jopling (Victorian artist), Monica Lewinsky, Sophia Loren, John Major (former PM), George Michael, Heather Mills, Bill Nicholson (famous Spurs manager), Cliff Richard, Norman Schwarzkopf, Neil Simon, Lord Snowdon, Earl Charles Spencer, Gore Vidal, Harold Wilson (former PM).
I found a pristine signed 2004 biography by a respected news reporter called Michael Buerk just today for £2. Despite the number I have found it is getting harder, and I now look for quality books to send to people for signing and have had some great results.
