Has anyones SASE come back opened and empty? Mine did today!

AHHH I am beyond ticked!!! Today, I opened my mailbox and saw one of my SASE's opened and EMPTY!!! I was soo mad that I went to the Post Office. The thing is their was no return addess all their was was the samp that says it came from NY. And on back is a barcode so the man at the post office is going to find out from what post office it is coming from. He is also waiting for the mail woman who does our mail to get back and ask her. He said usually when they see an envelope open and empty they post mark it saying that is but this time it wasn't. I just have a feeling that someone stole it. The weird thing is the envelope was opened perfectily, with just a tiny rip. I checked my excel sheet where I put all my fanmail sent and recieved dates. And most of the places I send to are CA, the ones I sent to NY were mostly Gossip Girl people. But Im not sure at all. I just soo mad.

What happens when they can't do anything about it?

There is nothing you can really do about it. I have had it done a few times. Basically the post office will give you a lost and found number to see if it is there. Other than that you have to chalk it up as a loss. It s*cks believe me I have been there.

That same thing happened to me about 4 months ago i got back a empty envelope from amy acker,but with mine the strip had never been peeled off so it was never sealed so i didn't know if she forgot to seal it and it fell out or someone stole it or if someone at the agency thought it would be funny to return a empty envelope you just that never know thats the problem,like with yours you dont know if it was stolen along the way or wasnt sealed good and came open and it fell out or someone sent you a empty envelope to be funny.Nobody obviously will admit to knowing anything about it or even noticing it was open or not,basically your left wondering and annoyed like i was... I feel bad for you because its really annoying.When i received my authentic selena gomez autograph in july she had just closed it with one of those metal folding things so anyone could open it and look inside so i was so releived the picture was inside,the last thing a autograph collector wants to see is a unsealed envelope in the mail.

Thanks ozzman, it really does s*ck!!! I just hope it wasn't really anyone big. I know its not one of my most wanted though so thats a good thing!

johnnylightning - its soooo true! And Im so sorry about yours as well!! I just wish it had a return address to at least know who it was! You know? I guess I just cant do anything about it!

That stinks. I do have a solution to the problem of getting something back that was empty and not knowing who it was from. I used to get 3x5 cards back from people who signatures were unrecognizeable. So what I started to do is on the return envelope I send. On the back I would write the actors initials in the corner. So if I sent something to Patrick Stewart. I would put PS in the corner. So this way I would at least be able to figure it out. In your situation you would know who it was from so you could resend it.

I always know where it came from because on the sase i write my address and the return address both myself,so i always know where it came from and i can check my list of people i sent to and i know who it was.

This has never happened to me, but I have heard of member's recieving unopened SASE's back with nothing in them. Are you sure it wasn't just an agency mistake, because that happens sometimes... I just don't understand why a postal employee would risk federal imprisonment.

There are a few things you can do:

1. Open a post-office box. This is very secure, but it costs money. I would recommend this if the problem persist.
2. Speak to your postal carrier face-to-face. This may not resolve anything, because your SASE may have been handled by dozens of people.
3. Report a possible theft to the police. They won't be able to do anything about this case, but it doesn't hurt to alert the authorities.
4. Check with your neighbors, see if they are missing mail. If they are, something's wronge.

Remember, this may have been a agency overlook.

I do something similar, except I have a list of names & dates of when I sent with a number next to them. I write the number in the corner instead. Cause Patrick Stewart and Phillip Schofield could cause problems

THose are all great ideas! I really like the one with the numbers! I think I will start doing that! I have a feeling that maybe the person either just forgot to put the autograph in the envelope or maybe they forgot to seal the envelope and so some one must have taken it. I will definetly start doing the whole numbers thing!
