Hi,
I am interested in buying a photo, the problem is that it has a dedication, is there a way I can remove the "to ___" without damaging the photo and the autograph?
please reply ASAP
P.S. I live in the UK, so don't post names of any american or other country substances to remove it.

Re: Removing Dedications from Autographs
I'm not sure of any safe way to remove personel inscriptions etc. I have had a couple that have gotten water damaged and thus removed the inscription (or part thereof) and / or the signature. However, I would not recommend trying to remove it. The risk of ruining an autograph is (again my opinion) too great.
There may be someone here that can answer your question better, but in my nearly 40 years in the hobby I have tried to be careful and not risk damage.

dry-erase whiteboard markers work pretty well if you want to remove anything off glossy photos, but you have to be careful cause if you use it too much or rub it off too much in one place, the photo can go red. other than that, it works pretty good.

Hmmm...seems pretty dicey to me. I wouldn't want to try that on a photo I bought.

i have used denatured alcohol and cotton swabs to do this... be very careful tho and only use one end of the swab with alcohol and use the other dry so you can wipe the alcohol off of the picture as you are doing this. i know this works really well with black and blue sharpie... i have never tried it with silver though.

Hi,
I've been removing inscriptions with a dry erase marker for many, many years. Be careful as you can damage the photo. Only attempt on glossy photos. I have found that the newer sharp or fine point sharpies are nearly impossiblre to remove. They seem to leave a deep impression in the photo. The odd colored sharpies also seem to be more difficult to remove for some reason. I had a bad experience trying to remove a fine point green sharpie inscription. The longer the inscription is on the photo the more you should leave it alone. Just sharing my own personal experiences and I'm sure they differ from others.
Take Care,
Chappy
