Shame on Dave!

Unread post by truhbl4u »

Dear Dave,

I saw your commentary on the “Sara Palin” $25,000 dinner. As amusing as I always find you, I think this time you reached too far. I have never been inspired to write to you before, but this time I think you need to hear what your audience has to say about that!

I am your audience. I remain politically neutral in all instances, so I keep my opinion of Mrs. P to myself. However this dinner which you are so quick to make fun of was a HUGE benefit to a particularly special charity to me. I’m sure she does charities all the time………..why did you pick this event to draw a negative out of for your humor. In this particular economy it is terrifyingly hard to raise money for even the BEST of causes!

With your comments, I would wonder if anyone would again volunteer for civic activities for fear that they will be picked apart on YOUR SHOW …….frankly this was bad form on your part.

I’ve seen comics trash their kids, wives, parents, and even pets for the sake of a joke, but to trash someone who is in the ACT of helping our troops is crossing the line.

Ride 2 Recovery is a fledgling grassroots drive to help our returning wounded vets. You are welcome to research it yourself when you have the time, I won't bother you with details you obviously weren’t interested in when you made fun of its successful dinner auction ……….www.ride2recovery.com.

I suggest that you step up to the plate Mr. Letterman, and offer yourself up for a dinner and see if you can draw more funds for this worthy cause than your adversary Mrs. Palin!

Speaking as a mother of a soldier newly deployed to the Middle East, and the witness of the return of other vets from that area in my own small hometown, I can tell you that I do not rest easy ANY NIGHT my son and everyone else’s sons are over there.

We parents are the ones who suffer, who care for and live with the battle scars that all wars bring home to us. We live it, breathe it and in our wildest dreams recover from it!

We will always carry the burden that no other person would sign up for.

I hope you will see your way to supporting the Ride 2 Recovery program after reading this letter. It’s the only way you can redeem yourself in the eyes of more people than you can imagine.

Sincerely, Carol L. Hanke

Mother of PFC Andrew Hanke

Please note this is a forum and Dave will probably never read this letter. If you want to contact him directly, you can use his fan mail address. I'm going to lock this topic.
