I'm just starting out so I don't want to invest too much money right now. I have the 4x9'' (or something) letters and was just planning on using 4x5'' SASE. I haven't checked if this will work or not but will I have to use those huge envelopes if all I'm sending is a small 2x3'' picture I printed from the internet?
I assume, if I want to receive a personal picture from them I need to use the big ones. And is there a place to purchase the stamps online or will I need to take everything into the post office?
What kind of envelopes do I use?

I use the A5-format: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/A5_paper_size
Re: What kind of envelopes do I use?
I guess what I really want to know is what is the combination of things to send in order to get an autograph or a picture?
Do i just fold up the big 8x11'' envelopes to fit inside the smaller ones and include an index card?

You could do that. However, remember that some celebs will not sign index cards and some will only sign if you provide a photo. What I do is I send them a 10X13 and put an 8X10 SASE inside that. It seems to work well, but I only do this with celebs I really want. If it's someone that I like, but I don't want to spend that much money on postage, I'll use a 6X9 SASE and fold that in half and put it inside another 6X9 and include a photo. I always include photos AND index cards.
I've also sent just a standard white envelope and folded another one up as an SASE with an index card (I've done this once when I first started collecting) and the person actually sent it back and signed the index card. However, I would not recommend this.
Hope that helps answer some of your questions. If you have any more feel free to post!

THANK YOU!
That clears up so much. I guess my last question would be, how much is postage for this kind of thing? I'm shipping everything in USA so would I need any more than two standard stamps on the first letter and more than one on the SASE? The post office is quite a ways away so I'd rather buy a bunch of stamps and send them off from my house.

a 4x9 and 4x5 envelope will be fine if your sending your own small photo. on that size envelope, it will only need 1 stamp on each envelopeMenji wrote:I'm just starting out so I don't want to invest too much money right now. For an 8X10 or 10X13, 3 stamps will be good. For a 6X9, I think 2 stamps would be fine. Also, to save on money, I tend to buy 10 and 5 cent stamps alongside regular stamps. For example, if I sent something that was $1.05, I'd use two 44 cent stamps and two 10 cent stamps.Menji wrote:THANK YOU!
