Exactly...maybe you write to someone who's less well-known in a movie because you like the movie, and then the letter doesn't come back for another year, and by then you've forgotten who you wrote to.

And I went to school with Will Friedle.

It's not really so much why, it's how rather. Sure, I like a lot of movies, but I can't imagine being able to write an entire letter to an actor or actress just for that one performance, especially if it was a minor one.

Well, that's just another answer to why, and not how. But whatever, to each their own. I suppose if one wanted it enough, they could come up with something.

1 & 2
I only write to people I'm a fan of, as I think it's pointless having an autograph of someone you don't even like, you're wasting their time and your own.

I will NOT PM you an address.
I will assist you in getting said address.
IE: give you pointers on where to get it.

I don't write to people that I don't know or that Im just not a fan of.
To me it's just no fun having an autograph of someone you hardly know.

I have a list in my head of people I admire OR people that play a part in a movie or series that I adore. For example: I don't like each and every actor/actress in the Harry Potter movies, but I do adore the books and movies. That means that they are a part of something I really like. The same goes for the series One Tree Hill.

And then there's that The Lion King movie. I adore that one. And when I write to those people who did a voice in the movie, it's most of the time only because they 'represent' a character of that movie.

But it's possible that I watch a movie and I really like it. So then I can write to those actors/actresses too.

I write to some of each. I won't write to anyone JUST because they write back, but I will occasionally write to someone who I'm not a huge fan of (i.e. I like Lost, don't love it, but wrote to Evangeline Lilly). I won't just write because someone is known to respond, and I certainly put more time and effort into the folks I like more, but I will admit to occasionally writing to someone who I only somewhat consider myself a "fan" of.

Now that I think about it, I don't like my previous answer because I couldn't write to an actor just because I like their performance in one movie.

And I get most of my autographs in person, so I seldom write to people at all.

It depends. Like there's some people I'm a HUGE fan of -- and then some celebs that only acted in 1 movie/tv show that I really liked and nothing else. (I'm guessing you can call these people 'that current "it" celeb') It makes you wonder how famous they could be now if they were still acting/singing/etc.!

Well I know a lot of people only send index cards, so that could be a problem. :?

Then again, some people only get autographs just to have them. *tsk tsk*
