Re: how do you feel about celebrities charging to personalize
I'm sorry, I clearly misunderstood that (and it looks like a couple others may have not understood either). I was unaware of that celebs charged extra for that, from what I've seen, if a celeb charges, personaliztion is included, that sucks

I agree that 80 for Shatner is alot, but if I was a Trekky, I'm sure I'd be willing to pay it.

Re: how do you feel about celebrities charging to personalize
I don't know about celebrities, but sports players don't charge for a personalization. Not that I know of. They charge for an inscription. And yes, it is disgusting that they'd make extra money for writing something like "1987 MVP" as if it's such a burden.
I've always wanted to go to such a signing and decline the autograph and just ask for the inscription because it's cheaper. I'd like to get the guts to do so one day... I'm sure the look on the person's face would be priceless.

Re: how do you feel about celebrities charging to personalize
As stated above it's not a "personalization" it's an inscription. I don't agree at all with it, but I understand the business behind the price structure. If you get Yogi Berra on a ball it's worth X amount of $. If you get Yogi Berra 15x All Star, or 12 X WS Champion ect it increases the value. Pete Rose will add Hit King 4256 for more $ because it increases the value.
Some celebs charge for an inscription because they see sports doing it. They don't realize why or how it works with a sport inscription. So they charge for Val Kilmer "To Chris best wishes" or whatever. That is a total ripoff.
IMO and from previous sales, an inscription increases the value, a personalization decreases it.

Re: how do you feel about celebrities charging to personalize
I would not mind paying for a Signed photo . But I look at it this way NOT MY FAULT , They can't manage their money or hire people who can't . I would give anything to make the money they make on a given movie . And yet they waist lot of it ,look at Nick Cage . We support them Buy paying to go see them in movies . They would not be where their are today if it were not for their FANS . Some charge way to much . I think anything over $10 is highway robbery

I find it strange that they charge more to personalise. Most stars prefer to personalise as it lessens the chances of the autograph ending up on Ebay!

If you go back and re-read the original post, you will see he/she is talking about a retired hockey player doing a scheduled signing at a sports show somewhere. The wrong term was used, unfortunately. The correct term is an inscription, which follows the player's actual signature. It's not about a personalization at all, nor is it about movie or TV star type celebrities.margotchanning wrote:I find it strange that they charge more to personalise. Clearly, people need to be very carefull with the terminology they use or it can become quite misleading.
