There's a different between an autograph and an autopen.

That picture doesn't have Jackman's "autograph". It has a forgery on it. The definition of 'forgery' (simplistically) is something unauthentic pretending to be genuine. That is what an autopenned signature is - a forgery.

Why would you want a forgery? What sentimental value could that have?

Again, if someone really wants forgeries, let me know, I can print you off some fake signatures (or even try to do them myself) and just save you the time.

Or, better still, I'll buy your autographs with three dollar bills (USD).

If you're still not happy enough, I have plenty of Enron stock I'll sell to you cheap.

Yeah, but it's just...he sent off the photo, he got it back with something similar to an autograph on it, and he can at least pretend to friends it's real. If it makes him happy, it's a success.

I guess if the purpose is so you can lie to the people you care about for the sole purpose of bragging and pretending you own something that you really do not (-an authentic autograph), sure it makes sense.

I question why anyone would actualy be happy with an autopen, but if your not an auto collector and a huge fan of the celeb, I guess maybe some people think its better then nothing.I do mail out to SFM sometimes, but at least I know and expect wht I'm getting...
And yes, I think it reflects porly on Hugh, especially as he always seems like such a nice guy

Honestly, when I know a celebrity sends out an AP, PP, or is considered secretarial, I don't take the time and waste my stamps.

I'll send e-mails, but I won't mail letters.

I have to admit, I didn't do this research when I first started collecting. Now, I look up others' successes, and judge their signing habbits, their best times to write, the best address to write to, etc etc.

Even though we disagree on PP and AP's, I also do the research, I make a point to always look up and read the last 5 successes, it lets me know how long to wait and what to expect. If everyone else got authentic and I got PP, I'd be upset, but if I expect a PP and get a PP, I really don't mind, however I won't use expensive photo envelopes on a PP

That's my thing - I do the research and only spend money if it'll be real. If SFM has a great PP for someone, I'll get it 'cause it's nice and free. I only send my own envelopes for authentics, and I hate when a SASE gets used for a PP or AP.

I don't mind if my envelope I use costs me a nickle, but I don't want my 1 - 2 dollar envelopes being used on PP. The other reason I like to do the research, some celebs will not provide a picture, and I have to, and other times a celeb will not sign anything sent, so I know not to waste my time looking for a pic to send, or bother sending a dvd sleeve

I must admit this depressing fact about myself:

In some cases, if the usual turnaround time for a particular celebrity is extremely long, now (after I've been collecting for a while) I only occassionally mail out.

When I first started, I sent out to everyone regardless of time.

I don't mind length waits, I tend to send out 1 - 2 requests a week, if someone takes a year +, if I thought about it, it would bother me, however I'm sure by next year I'd forget all about it and it'd be a pleasant surprise
