The majority of people that I've met on this website were not from America... There are countries from all over the world being represented on fanmail.biz

Regarding the original post: It doesn't really bother me that people do it, but I don't like buying autographs. The only one I've purchased is one that I am fairly sure will never sign TTM again (Ringo Starr). For me, most of the fun of autographs is writing a letter and getting a response. That is taken away if I am just buying it from some random person online.
I do agree with that, although the reality is, an A-lister like Vanessa Hudgens for example (whose auto I have ought here), there is maybe a 1% of getting a response from her ttm. So you often have to buy.
I also find that this board is a lot more trustworthy then Ebay, and I do not have paypal, so I like being able to send cash ttm or stamps etc etc. I am a person who sells autos on here, yes. I have never written or emailed for an auto, but sometimes my view/opinion on the celeb in question change to the point where I simply do not like them anymore, hence don't want their auto! But most of the time, it is purely because I am young and unemployed and need the money to maintain a social life!

No, we are not free to do as we wish. Try telling that to a judge. In America we are free to take care of our responsibilities.

I agree that the selling of autographs should not be allowed unless one has an agreement with a particular celebrity to do so. Otherwise it is tantamount to selling the celebrity's intellectual property without an expressed permission.

I do agree with trading autographs, since no profit is changing hands.

And if things are tough to where you can't afford to collect autographs, then simply stop until you can afford to resume collecting. I do it myself from time to time since I'm on a limited budget, and often have other more important things to spend my money on. And I'm still alive.

This site is based in the Good Ol' USA. And anyone with common sense would understand my comment "we are free to do as we please". Obviously that was a comment about selling autographs. In this country there is a thing called Free Trade, which allows you to sell anything you own as long as it is not illegal.

Yes there are members from all over the world, and that makes it a great place. But it has no bearing on my comments.

As for stoping untill you have money??? Why? If if someone loves the hobby and has items they don't care about anymore or have duplicates, it seems to be common sense to sell off the unnecessary and buy stamps.

Like I said, I don't necessarily agree with it. For the members who ONLY do it to make a profit, with absolutely no intentions other than selling it as soon as the envelope arrives, that's wrong. But for those who are in a bind, and really need to make some money, I see no issues.

Perhaps I may have misread your intentions when you stated that in America we can do "as we wish" but you posted what you posted, and the statement itself is still wrong. In my view, it shows a gross misrepresentation of what it means to be free in this country.

And I still don't think we have the right to sell someone's intellectual property without their permission. That's why some of the celebrities will stop responding TTM.

Why would you send for an autograph if you don't want to keep it? I will not purchase an autograph either from here, from eBay, or anywhere else. I refuse to be the one who is enabling those who sell, unless they are licensed to do so.

I do understand why people sell autographs for a bit of spare cash, but i would suggest that you keep some kind of providence for proof of where you got them and sell them on amazon or e bay or something similar, otherwise you will get what Helen Reddy has done, she wont sign anything now because of the volume of selling that is going on on many different sites.
You should only need to buy autographs if you have no chance of getting them yourself,i have a 100% success record in the uk and about 70% overseas, just by writing a nice letter and paying for the return postage,it shows respect for the artist and shows that not everything is about money.
Doug bradley (pinhead) was kind enough to sign for nothing when he knew i would never sell or make money from his autograph.Respect Doug.

I have no problem with it as long as it is real!, now evilbay is 99.9% FAKE and that just sucks. How they can get away with it is beyond me and their moderation is a complete joke!. I have sent many messages for fake autographs to see them go for big bucks in the end?. It comes down to people not doing their homework and no moderation at all so it just recycles itself over and over?. The COA they print out is also garbage! wow it must be real it has a inkjet COA!.

Plus how can people be so dumb? a Johnny Depp, or Stallone, Schwarzenegger, Jolie etc. for $10-$30? please do your homework people those go for way more than bargain prices and you see bids all the time for a $20 Depp etc. or $5-$10 auctions for celeb auto's?. Scumbags making quick easy cash over and over? it grinds my gears!!! {down} .

The only problem I have is that some members don't contribute to the boards and are only here to sell autographs. They save Ebay fees by selling here for free.

It was a joke posting it on this topic, calm.
No I am not qualified to sell (I have not had 100 consecutive posts.) So what? That does not make me a cheat. I have organised many trades in the past via PM.

Jesus christ.
