About 2 weeks ago, I sent a friend request to someone's personal facebook account. To my surprise, she added me. That's an honor in itself to me, so I don't want to push my luck, but, still, I'd like to ask this question:
Do you think that it would be rude to send her a private message on Facebook asking for an autograph? It seems comparable to sending an email, but, I do not know her email address, nor is she listed in the database, so it seems that I have little choice.
Also, just so you know, this person is not so busy that it would compromise her schedule. She hasn't been part of the music industry for more than a decade. She's a stay at home mother these days.
Please let me know your thoughts. Thank you.
Isaiah

I think it all depends on the celebrity. I have sent messages to people on there and only had one person respond. You could offer to send a SASE if it seems more polite.

P.S. I wouldn't post the name of the person: you might want to edit it out of your post.

I see no harm in asking. I've sent many requests through MySpace & Youtube. You could also ask in your message, that if she doesn't have any photos to send out, if she has a agent address where fanmail can be sent.
Most celebs are happy to send out photos to TRUE fans via email.

I don't see any harm in asking. But whenever I send at e-mail (which to me this is kinda the same thing) I alway offer to send a SASE and put my address in the e-mail that way it doesn't seem like I'm trying to get something for nothing.

I don't see the harm in asking through Facebook for an autograph. What I would do though is offer to send a SASE so that the person doesn't have to pay for postage. You can also offer to send a picture or CD booklet (just said that because you said something about the music industry)

Re: Requesting an autograph through a message on facebook?
I've tried it in the past. Mainly because I was too lazy and cheap to send out a request via snail mail. I never received a response, so I gave up. Did I ever mention that I HATE facebook? I joined in 2004 before anyone knew much about it, only a small selection of large colleges across the US
had access. Now EVERYONE, and I mean everyone, has an account now, including my mom.
It's gone from a small social networking community in the US to an enormous global enterprise.

Thank you all. I've already recieved a message from the person that I sent the request to, stating that my autograph has been sent, so it seems like a success from here. Thank you all, anyway.

Those are great replies. I love it even more when they don't warn me it is coming so I get a surprise in the mail. Hope it comes quickly!Isaiah wrote:Thank you all.
