Rude responses?

I don't know if this topic will get locked or not. I don't want to talk dirty about anyone or keep anyone from writing to a celeb; I just want this to be a good discussion, and even see if some of us has have similar responses! :neutral:

Phew.

Have you ever gotten a response from a celeb that you thought was just downright rude? (Whether it was unintentional - as in, they were probably having a bad day - or not?)

Like have you ever gotten your photos back unsigned with no explanation, or have they written something rude/nasty on your item... or something else?

I Dnt Remember Who This Was For But I Got My SASE With MY Photo Unsigned With a Paper Saying If You Include $15 You Can Re-Send Your Photo And H Will Sign It...

I once sent a photo to BBC Wales for James Marsters, on the rumour that he was filming Torchwood CoE. Obviously, he wasn't involved, so they sent my photo back in my SASE unsigned, with no explaination. Of course, this was BBC Wales being crappy not James. They even put a blank "with compliments" slip in. Least they could have done was write "Sorry, we can't pass these on to James" or something. Even better would have been to stamp it as an RTS instead of opening it so I didnt waste 2 sets of stamps!

From what I can remember I have never received a response from someone that I would consider rude. But I did get someone in person who I would consider very rude, Michael Parkinson. (You have probably all heard that story lol as I tell it a lot).

I've only gotten a couple, One was from Star Wars actor Dave Prowse, I sent him 5 photos & a $5.00 donation and he returned them all unsigned with a note saying he needed more money. But mostly it was my fault for sending him too many items. My grandpa met him and got a photo taken with him, but didn't get me an autograph so I later re-sent to Dave with the photo op and a custom photo I had designed and he was more than happy to sign then.

Second one was from Frank Langella, I sent two items for me and my uncles Superman Returns collection, but only received one back signed. so I re-sent and got a rejection letter saying that Frank only signs one item per fan. :neutral:

I wouldn't call it rude but I did send a LOR, SASE and 8x10 to Sly Stallone about a year or more ago and my photo came back unsigned with no explanation or anything.

I think when an item doesn't ome back and is completely ignoredd/tossed thats rude.

I've had a simular experience. Turned out the card manufacturer (in this case, Upper Deck) put a picture of the wrong player on the card. You might want to go back and take another look at the card (look it up in Beckett, if you have to) and see if the wrong player was pictured on the card.

This past year I had the pleasure of meeting Masahide Kobayashi (nicknamed "Masa"). When he came to the ballpark I said his name and asked for an autograph but he replied, "No, but Masa is coming soon." When I saw him inside the ballpark at the dugout, I asked him if he arrived yet. He signed my card.

I sent a letter and photo to George Strait and he or his agency kept my photo and sent me a fan club price list in return - I wouldn't have minded had they not nabbed my photo

Ya know, I was saying to myself "well I'm glad I've never had a bad experience", but after I got thinking I remembered I did have a negative experience a few years ago, not with a celebrity, but with his assistant. I had sent a charity request to director Norman Jewison along with an index card that I said could be signed if he had no photos or memorabilia and Q&A sheet with 5 questions that I asked if he could fill out for me. It was sent snail mail but I included my email at the bottom of the letter. A few weeks later I got an email from his assistant. I checked and I happen to still have them in my inbox, not really sure why I kept them.

Dear Mark Donoghue,
Please clarify why you want Mr. Jewison to answer your interview questions? How will the interview be used with a photo and a index card ­ please explain. Could you provide your charitable foundation number in order for me to pass your request along for Mr. Jewison's review. We do not have memorabilia as everything was archived at the university of Toronto.

This was one of the first request I had sent out for a charitable auction, and when she asked for a the charitable foundation number, I thought she was asking for the phone number so she could verify I was legitimate. This is the response I sent to her:


Dear Kim
Thank you for replying to my letter. The reason for the interview is simply curiosity. I was just interested in finding a little bit about Mr. Jewison's personal opinions on a couple of things. The interview questions are optional so if Mr. Jewison does not wish to answer them that is ok. If you would like more info about PAWS the phone number is: (***) ***-**** and the email address of the president, Vicki M******* is ********@*****.***

And her reply the next day:

Hello Mr. Donoghue,
Please appreciate we are a busy office and I do not have time to do your
job, please provide us with the charitable foundation number before I can do
my job. If you don't have a number - let me know so I can report the
mandatory information to Mr. Jewison.
The interview request is denied. If you are interested in Mr. Jewison
contact University of Toronto or purchase his book.

I sent her another email saying that because we are a new, local organization and did not have a charitable number. I never got another reply from her and I never received an item from Norman Jewison. I certainly don’t blame Mr. Jewison though. I have a feeling he never even saw the request.

Maybe its not that bad, I was a little insulted though.
